Keep an eye on eBay. They come up for sale every so often, but be prepared to spend some cash.  The last few that have sold have been over $300!  Wayne has a fiberglass reproduction available, But I don't recall the price.

Dang,i thought this was going to be a fairly cheap build. Over the years i have had few tanks and cut tunnells in them to use on other builds. Never paid over $75.00 for a tank.

Only 300 Bucks ... and to think that back in 1959 a brand new , factory direct , fuel tank with caps and your choice of colors was 'cheap' at $13.80 .

Remember that you're re-building an American classic . That in itself is never cheap . Add to that a society that's been throwing all possible things away for 30 or 40 years and parts get pretty scarce . Supply and demand ...
I'm just glad that we have folks capable of re-manufacturing parts .

I just bought that rusted out hulk of a tank on eBay 2 weeks ago that was filled with foam.  The seller said it was not repairable. I think I can resurrect it.  I already seperated the halves and bead blasted it to see what I am working with.  It will be a project for the fall/winter.

What would the acetone do for it Tom?  Is that to remove the foam residue?

Acetone, MEK, and lacquer thinner will all attack the foam. Wear rubber gloves of course.

After I separated the tank halves, I just pulled the foam out, no chemicals needed.

you know Wayne has the fiberglass molds.... he had a fiberglass tank at Portland last year, not sure if he is selling any of them or not. I think Reese was also looking into having some made.

Wayne has some left.  Unfortunately, the guy that was making them had a heart attack.  His doctor strongly recommended he get out of the fiberglass business, as it was killing him.  Wayne is looking for another person to do them.

I wonder if the guy will sell the molds. I guy that im friends with does fiberglass work everyday for power companies building the lift boxes. He hand lays a lot of stuff also. Does anyone know wayne well enough to ask if molds could ne bought? How many a year could a person sell?
