Off Topic / paint edge sealer
« on: January 19, 2018, 12:23:56 PM »
I've been looking on the "net" for a product I had used years ago for sealing up the edges of where the paint ends on a motorcycle gas tank and petcock bunghole to stops the fumes and/or fuel from lifting the clearcoat and paint from the exposed steel edge.  It came in a little plastic tube and was applied around the edge using a small paint brush or Q-tip.  Anyone have any idea what it was called, or where to find it?

Did Simplex bikes have mirrors on the handle bars?

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / seat rail
« on: January 10, 2018, 09:31:11 AM »
I've been looking at this seat rail I have and got to thinking about seeing how I'd like it, if I installed it.  Problem is, I have to put a hole thru the leather skirt and I'm not sure exactly where they need to be located.  I figured IF I didn't like it, I could just install a conch over the hole and be none the worse.  My question is...How do I locate exactly where I need to put the holes?  Only way I can figure is to get an original seat pan like mine and simulate it/match it up to figure it out.  Anyone have a better idea or, would maybe consider sending me a seat I could use as a mock-up in order to figure out the hole placement?  Alternative ideas, please post them.  If you have an old/unused seat pan you'd let me use, please send me a PM and maybe we can work something out?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / sediment bowl
« on: December 31, 2017, 11:11:32 AM »
I'm debating on installing a sediment bowl but, the usual place on the flat bar under the tank is a bit close to the top of my engine.  Can you think of a reason why a guy couldn't/shouldn't mount it directly to the gas tank outlet?

Anyone know if there is a headlight lens that fits/works in our headlight bucket?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / first things first
« on: November 18, 2017, 01:32:58 PM »
Instead of storing the bike in storage stall for winter, I once again parked it indoors.   I thougt about doing do a couple things to it over the winter.  On the list is the possibility of converting the headlight over to 12V with internal wiring, polishing or nickel plating the trim ring, tapping the valve cover breather tube into intake manifold, etc.
Unfortunately, my cat has figured out the new seat fits his little butt very nicely and likes to sit on it and/or nap.  Since they tend to be belligerent and rarely do what ever it is you ask of them, I figured first things first to protect my new seat from his very sharp little claws.  If you can't beat'em, at least try to outsmart 'em.  Forums pretty slow so here's a couple pics of solution.  Now I don't need to worry about it while it's in here at least.  Wish he could at least hand me tools while I work on it.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / headlight ring
« on: August 10, 2017, 08:59:02 AM »
I was wondering if the metal headlight trim ring was originally nickel or chrome plated or just polished steel?  I found a really good and inexpensive plating shop near me that I'm going to try for that clutch bushing and was considering adding the trim ring to the order with it, among other things I'm having done in the near future.

New suppliers will be added as found / hardware

I recall couple people mentioned good places for getting hard to find and/or quality hardware that sold in smaller quantities to non-commercial accounts (people)  Can you post their names and/or websites please?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / different seats

Working with the leather artist at Heathers Leathers and wondering if any of you with ServiCycles have ever done anything but the "run of the mill" looking seat?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Christmas present for the Servi
« on: December 29, 2016, 02:07:07 PM »
Got tired of looking at the chipped paint from the fork making contact with the neck, and the hole in the grips.  Little imagination and shopping around came up with these.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / badging

Did, or do, any Simplex's have a frame badge on their steering neck, like bicycles have?   I was considering applying a decal there, but wondered if there was actually an authentic one ever used or available?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / clutch noise
« on: August 03, 2016, 07:57:44 AM »
I'll ask again since nobody answered...Might have been busy getting ready for Portland, etc...Does anyone/everyone ever experience a slight rattle noise from there engine clutch (series 30) while either "at idle" and/or during engagement?  With the new muffler packing, my bike is actually pretty quite while running, so I may just be being too picky and fixated on it. You know how that can be I'm sure...I'm working on a solution.

Buy, Sell, Trade / BMI sale
« on: May 16, 2016, 11:06:03 AM »
Just got home from EXTENDED stay in various hospitals and was going thru E-mails.  I see BMI (go-cart parts, etc.) has a sale going on.  Among other things they have 30 series Comet clutches for 50% off.  Good deal if your in the market  and building your own engine set-up.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Simplex/servicycle logo on a seat
« on: March 04, 2016, 07:30:05 AM »
Got a 2 part question for y'all...First, any of you guys have a picture of a seat from Heathers Leathers with the servicycle/Simplex "logo" on it? (Curious about size, location of the logo, and couldn't locate a pic on their website)  Second, I was considering maybe just sending them another seat pan "to do", and keeping my original "as-is" and wondered if anyone has a "extra" seat pan (in good condition) that they'd consider selling "cheap" for this purpose?  (You can PM on the seat pan with pic and price) Thanks, Paul
