Thanks for the info Rick! I have attached some pics. Does it look about right? If I understand your email correctly I need to turn it so that the button is on the top. Would you have any pictures of what it should look like? Appreciate all the great help. Pete

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Twist Grip Throttle Control help needed
« on: February 18, 2016, 06:39:39 PM »
Hi all, I am in the process of replacing the aftermarket throttle with the correct twist grip throttle control on my 57 Simplex. The only thing I have to go from is the illustration in the manual. See attachment. Does anyone have instructions or photos of how this goes together? Which way does part number 764 face once it is installed in the handle bar up or down? Any info would me much appreciated. Thanks, Pete

Other Things Simplex / Front fender chrome piece?
« on: December 11, 2012, 06:08:59 PM »
I have seen some pictures of bikes with a chrome piece attached to the top of the front fender and am curious as to what it is. I haven’t been able to make out what it is in any of the pictures I have seen.  Kind of looks like another light but I am not sure. Does anyone have any photos to share of what this might be? Is it an aftermarket peice or original? Thanks, Pete

Engine & Transmission / Re: Light coil
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:07:55 PM »
Fixed the wiring coming out from the coil, started her up and got a good reading. Connected the wires for the head light and brake light and it quit working. Time to replace wires to head light and brake light next. Thanks for the help! Pete

Engine & Transmission / Light coil
« on: December 09, 2012, 04:40:58 PM »
is there any way to check the light coil in a wico without the engine running? Lights were working until I bumped a wire. Turns out that the light wire coming out of the magneto had been bare in the one spot were I moved it. I am wondering if it grounded out and ruined the coil. I put a volt meter on the wire with engine running and couldn't get a reading. Thanks, Pete

Restoration Projects / Re: bike stand

The carburetor is a MT1D , not sure of the venturi as I have not had the carb off yet. I will try to get it this weekend for you.

I think the previous owner of the bike had kids he would ride them around on the back. There were foot pegs and a small square seat on the rack when I first got the bike. He probally raised it so they could ride on the back with him.

I chated with Wayne yesterday and he has all the parts I need so far. Complete throttle system, new exhaust system, new choke cable, gaskets, springs, wires, carb kit, belts and tires just to get me started.
It's going to be a great winter working in the garage on the bike!

Thanks for the replies back! Not only is the rack incorrect, the throttle system is completly wrong. I am sending off my parts list to Wayne today. I have carburetor MT1D. My goal for this winter is to get the bike mechanically sound and as original as possible. New paint  maybe next winter. I kind of like the way it looks now so I might hold off for a few years.

Restoration Projects / bike stand
« on: November 27, 2012, 06:06:25 AM »
I managed to get a couple of rides in this summer. Blew out the rear inner tube on the second trip and thought I was going to have to order one and wait a couple of weeks for it to arrive. Turns out the local bicycle shop has 26X2 extra heavy duty inner tubes that work just fine. I was back on the road with 2 hours.

Its winter now so all the summer toys are put away and time to start working on the bikes. We have designed a stand to make working on the Simplex a bit easier. Picture is attached. Getting ready to mail my first parts list off to Wayne this week.

I have a question on the throttle stop. My bike has a spring attached to throttle stop. I don’t see a spring listed in any of the books. I am thinking it was installed to help return the throttle to idle because the cable is in really bad shape. Is there a spring or does the throttle return to idle by way of the cable?

Thanks,
Pete

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / brake light wiring?
« on: January 21, 2012, 07:47:07 PM »
The brake light wires are run on the outside of the frame. this doesnt look right to us based on the pictures we have seen but we cant figure out how they should be run.

Can anyone give us some advice?

We are planning to enter the bike in the 2012 19th annual Costom Bike Show, April 7th & 8th here in Anchorage, and are trying to take care of a few minor details before the show.

Thanks for your help!

I tried this today, 3/4 inch threaded black pipe. I am concerned about resting on the exhaust pipes. I need to modify the stand a bit more to get off the exhaust.
