thanks guys, I have had 5 of these units and they all faced right except the last one I got.

Too cool.  There were about 25 Simplexs in our town in the 50's but never saw one of those.

3
I have seen two bikes with the air cleaner facing down.  All the rest come out the right side of the bike.  Guess this is just a mistake in installation?  What do you think?

That looks to be a real good start .

I see a PO added a pull start hub .

Is that your T bird ?

Pete . :)

Kickstart here, I see the air cleaner is facing down.  That is the second one I have seen this way.  All mine face out to the right side.  Nice find, and a shifter at that.

I ment to get by the storage and see what the frame numbers were on the 1957 and the other frame but am doing a house remodel in my "SPARE" time so did not go.  I will make an effort this week and post them.

Sorry, misunderstood the question. Brass on the Sportsman, at least when I got it.

As memory serves, it was just aluminum without paint.  The brass one I have only seen on a Sportsman.  I could be wrong about all this.

Will do Mike, and I have another frame, tank, and set of wheels.  I will see what the frame number of that one is as well.  I have this one and the 1957 in storage and will try to go by there this weekend and get those numbers.
