Welcome! Please post some closer pictures of the motor and clutch setup.  Not sure there is much 1949 Simplex on that bike, but it is cool!

Yes, it was my brother in laws just got it from his wife, he passed a few years back. Have the original motor for it in a box of pieces. Has the carb and looks like everything is there. Guess he bought it as a basket case his wife said he was having trouble with the motor so he rigged this up.

I don't recall ever seeing that drive setup before .
And , I have to ask about the mess of levers to the left of the tank . Are those for shifting or ???

Pete . :)

Yes the levers are for shifting, im still trying to figure it out myself.  My brother in law built it. He was a pretty neat guy for getting stuff to work.

It looks like a 3 speed transmission with a 3 shoe clutch .
I'm guessing each 'speed' is controlled via belt tension for each .
Seems complicated , but  , if it works ... ;)
I'd imagine the bike would easily keep up with most traffic , sans the freeway .

Well his brother said it would go 60. Way faster than I would want to go.  To me its pretty cool. And all that is yet to be determined lol
