New piston and rod.

Planning on putting my new piston and rod in my 48. Wayne told me he lightened them up. Said my motor should run a whole lot smoother.  Cant wait to find out!

Notice brass bushing in original rod.  Waynes did not come with one but I had the bushing and added it.

 Old piston with pin    6.1 oz. or 175 grams      New piston with pin   5.7 oz.  or  162 grams

 Old rod     2.8 oz.  or  81 grams                     New  rod             2.4 oz.   or  70  grams

Do you know what they're made of?  Heat treated? Nitride coated? T7 billet Aluminum Rod & piston?  Curious color coating.

Tom, is that rod stock length or Wayne's longer version.

 Those slots were not for oiling, they were to control piston expansion.

Slots are always on the thrust side of the piston and aid in reducing wear by being able to absorb some of the pressures on that side of the piston when cylinder fires. I think Wayne mentioned T10 aluminum when I bought that new piston.  He has added some spots at bottom of skirt where he took some metal off to aid in lightnening it up plus he added small lubricating holes on bottom side of pin bosses.

New rod is stock length but am considering a long rodded motor for my blue 1952.  Smoother revving and over all performance that is for sure.  love to see how one would run but probably a no brainer as I have seen the dividend in Briggs motors.  I have a 1/2" longer rod in my kart motor and that thing revs amazingly!

Can you please post a pic of those added spots on the new skirt and pin lube holes ?
Maybe a comparison shot with the old piston .

I see a bit more of the inside casting removed , along with the half holes on each side .

Are there lube holes in the upper pin housing as well ?
Just wondering if he simply drilled through both lower and upper .
I seem to recall some discussion about lube holes possibly being drilled in from the piston side above the pin . I don't know if that ever happened .

The lube holes are only on the bottom side but I may consider finishing them through to the top.

Just seems that would be nothing but advantageous .
