The kicker shaft doesn't jive with earlier rides. The '47 manual and '48 manual show bolt-on kicker shafts. What if it was a later '48 to late '50( no frame number yet) with an earlier engine??? What say ye???   Rick, what does the 1950 manual show for a kicker shaft?  BTW Rick, I bought the originals to the other manuals you have.  The '51/'52 manual clearly says they had a frame number by then.

The '48 manual shows both styles, while the '47 manual shows the installation of a u-bolt style onto a bike that doesn't originally come with one.  I don't believe it to be later than 1948, because the kickstand moved to under the floorboard on the 1949.

Tom, how about a really late 1947 model H engine and one of the first 1948 frames?  That would be right up Simplex's alley!!

This has been a fun exercise.  I'll bet Dan didn't expect the flood of "guesses" on his bike!  I also think it's a '47, although if he has a title and it says '48, then I sure wouldn't go thru the headaches to change it.

The aircleaner system will be the hardest part to come up with if he wants a somewhat accurate restoration (although I wouldnt' change that front end either), wouldn't you agree?
