Honda GC160/GC190 Question
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:26:41 PM »
Im researching the use of the GC160 as a replacement motor.  Does anyone know which specific model to go with?  Honda offers different shaft, throttle and even electric start options for the GC line.  I figured I should go with the manual throttle option, just add a return spring. Other advice?

I have seen on honda's website were they list electric start, but when I called a couple of dealers, they say there is no electric start available.  Do you have a source for an electric start model?  The reason I would chose electric start is because this gets you a charging stator to run the lights.

I bought a GC 160 before I relised that I need to produce eletricity for the lights. I have checked every were with no luck for the GC 160 . I am just going to run a battery for the lights and charge it up over night. If I was going to do it all over I would get an engine with a charging system . Good Luck on your project and if you figure out how to get a eletric start for your GC 160 let me know. Bill Marcum 8)

Bill, I guess you never got any info from Bill Miller?  He told me he has a charging stator on his honda conversion, but it was not from honda, but added on.  I'd love to know how he did it, and pictures would be great.

Rick, yes I did get to talk with Bill Miller , he had a friend do the up grade , his name is Ralph Jenkins he owns a mower shop. He said he would send me the part that I would need to do the charging system. I did not ever receive the parts. His phone no. is 770-307-1709 . I am done with trying to figure it out. I will just try to finish the bike this winter with out the charging system. I have lost intrest so the Simplex is on hold for now. Bill Marcum 8)

More info...

I may plan on using one of these as well. You want to use the Q model. This has the standard shaft. The elec start models are only on the snow blowers and they are 110 volts AC. http://engines.honda.com/models/model-detail/gc160

I plan on running an old generator off of a pully to generate power for lights. I suppose you could use any old elec motor that would produce 6/12 volts what spun.
