Thanks Rick. Since the frame of the '37 is so messed up I'm thinking of trying to put the '38  Villiers motor in it. It is a left side chain drive and am thinking of using a short chain to a sprocket on the left side and a jack shaft to a pulley to the right side.   It seems like the Simplex sheave could be moved to the right side. This way I could keep using all of the original Simplex parts. I need the smallest pulley possible as there is not much room but don't know what the original '37 sheave would take. Hope this makes sense and don't know if it will work, but thought it was worth a look into. Rick, thanks for the response.

The wheel sheave  can mount on either side, no issues there.  If it is the original 1937 sheave an A belt is correct, if after about 1940, it will take a B belt.  As for pulley diameter, Simplex used 5” and 6” on the shifter bikes, but with the Villiers motor, I think you could use a 3” pulley on the jackshaft without issue.  Belt length will have to be determined by measuring when everything is mocked up.

BTW,  A   4L   1/2”
         B   5L   5/8”

Rick, thanks. That really helps. I'm not a great fabricator, but will give it a shot. I'll let you know how it evolves. Garry

check out this thread:   http://simplexservi-cycle.com/index.php?topic=1375.0

I installed a Honda GS190 motor into a Simplex, this might give you some ideas.

Thanks Rick for all of your help. You did a fantastic job on the stretch bike. I only wish I had half of your ability. Keep up the good work. By the way, your project did give me more ideas. Thanks, Garry.
