Pretty neat document.  Those parts mentioned at the bottom....I wish the mufflers were still available.  I'm planning to make a single exhaust pipe to connect to my "stubby" style muffler because I like the long pipe look much better.

Two comments. First, the twin gas cap started in 1953, not 1954.  Secondly,  As to muffler availability, Wayne has a pretty nice reproduction muffler available, both the earlier short style and the long, twin tailpipe version.

Wanted to put it out there for responses to accuracy. Personally, I wasn't sure about the leaf spring drawing for the 48 because I am 99% sure my ride was untouched.

How many of you have straight sided seat springs?  I've never seen one.

Ya, I've wondered why they didn't use stiffer springs.  With Treen being 6'4" & over 200 lbs, you would have thought he would have had a beefy spring under that seat.  I have seen a "heavy duty" spring listed in the catalogs....I wonder how a guy would know the difference.

I just checked my 1949 Model K, and it has the double step leaf spring.  My 53 and 54 are both single step.  Tom, what does your 48 have?

I'm not sure about his headlight mounting either.  I think the change occurred after 1952, for the 1953 model year.  The earlier years used an eyebolt to a flat plate where as the later was bolted right to a mount welded to the front fork.

My '48 has a straight spring. The leaf is correct compared to the pic for the 48 , J, K. But not for the one stating for the beginning of 1948. I figured mine being an early '48 it should have that one. Maybe it's just not early enough!! The front of the seat mounts right on the top of the second step so it only touches the underneath and not any of the covering.
