Backward bearing race - arg!
« on: February 10, 2022, 06:02:19 PM »
Hi all,

I recently picked up a Simplex frame, wheels, seat and a few other items.

One problem is that some previous owner installed a bearing race in the front wheel backwards and then installed the dust cover. ;-(  See the pics of the good bearing race and the backward race.

How do I get the errant dust cover and backward race out of the hub? Just pry up the dust cover and then pound out the race from the back with a brass rod?

I'm looking for advice and comments.  Thanks!  Dean

You got it, just hit it through the hole with a brass drift.  It will pop the race and dust shield out together.
