Post by: Derek on March 01, 2017, 02:34:41 PM
I am trying to find a magneto cover for my '53. Are there any of these still in existence?

Wayne has been out of the reproduction covers for the Wico magneto for 2 years.  The supplier he used to get them from is no longer doing that work.  Wayne does own the dies, but has not found anyone yet to do them.

That said, I have a lead on some reproductions that were made by someone else.  I don't have a price yet, but should know more by friday.  What does everyone think is a fair price?

What have they gone for in the past?

The last one I got from Wayne was $105 for a mill finish. He also had them polished for an extra $25, I believe.  This was 4 years ago, so I would expect an increase.

Here is the Wico cover I bought from a guy in Florida.  He has a bunch, so if anyone needs one, contact me and I will put you in touch with the man.

They were made a long time ago, and are a little dirty, but clean up well.  This is both before and after pictures, about 10 minutes was all I spent on it. With more time, it will get even better.

That came up to shine pretty nicely , Rick .

I wonder if the Wico covers can be 're-purposed' into Phelon covers without too much trouble and still look decent .

I just put a Wico cover on a Phelon backing plate to see how close it was.  The Wico cover goes over the Phelon plate completely, and even sits on the phelons outer edge. You would have to build some sort of attachment system and maybe cut off the mounting ring.  I don't know about the depth, as I don't have any of those parts.

That said, I think Wayne has Phelon covers available, buy I may be wrong.
