Buy, Sell, Trade / Mismatch Bike
« on: August 24, 2019, 01:31:40 PM »
I put this bike together mostly from parts I found but also from new parts

Had lots of fun over the years but it is time to let it go.

Like to get $1000 for it.

Will answer questions and send more pictures

Would be willing to take it apart a ship but of course buyer would have to pay shipping.

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Possible Headlight Solution
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:53:37 PM »
I have a 48 with a HF predator engine.

Of course the bummer is no lighting coil.

I might have found a good solution.

On my other mini bike with a predator engine I installed a Harbor Freight off road light ($10).  It has a H3 bulb.  I replace the halogen bulb with a LED H3 7watt replacement ($7.00).  I made a temporary wire harness and connected to my 18 volt (1.5amp hour) drill battery.  A freshly recharged battery went an hour and half before the light started to dim.  It was fairly bright.

I just need to replace the sealed beam bulb on my Simplex with reflector and lens setup.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Kick Stand Question
« on: August 12, 2014, 06:51:23 PM »
Is this the kick stand mount.  Its under the left foot board.

So this is later than a 1948 frame.  My bike was a bunch of pieces when I got it.

Buy, Sell, Trade / TankTrade
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:14:48 PM »
I have a nice automatic tank in red primer.  Few small dents, clean inside, neither cap looks orginal.

I am looking for a single fill right or left tank in similar condition.

Any takers

Trooper82

What is under the cover on the pulley side of your military build?

Did you use a torque converter?

Just working on a build of my own.

Thanks

Wheels & Tires / Rear Axel
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:20:08 PM »
I am re-building a rear wheel.

What is the thread of the rear axle.  I think the diameter is 7/16.  It seems to be a very fine thread.
Thanks in advance.

I would like to see a picture of the bottom of a seat to see how the seat cover is held to the seat pan. Staples, Split Rivets, Contact Cement???

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Fork Restoration
« on: July 30, 2011, 08:26:54 PM »
I am beginning the restoration of my servi-cycle with the forks.

My question is how rough or smooth are the forgings at the end of the forks.  I am talking about the eyelets at the bottom of the forks not the linkages between the fork and the springer.

Even some of the tubing sections of the forks look to be rough from the manufacture. Some of the welds are definitely not pretty.

I don’t want to over restore my servi-cycle.  Sure I can spend the time to make everything glass smooth.  And that would make it pretty, but if it didn’t come from the factory that way, then it loses some of it originality.

Thanks in Advance

Wheels & Tires / Rims
« on: July 20, 2011, 11:25:20 AM »
I am working a basket case project.  But that means the fun will last longer.   ;D
I am currently working on the frame and forks, but I am gathering information for the wheels.

The rims are perfectly good except for the pieces that have rusty away in to oblivion.  ;)
What rims do you guys use to replace old, missing or unsafe rims?  I was thinking about re-lacing the front wheel with a drum brake for added stopping power.  Is this a good idea?
