Title: Connecting rod bearing screw

Any tips on removing the big flat head screw that connects the rod bearing to the crank? Is it left or right hand? I hate flat head screws - I couldn't get it to budge. I started tearing my engine down for a rebuild today. Its an M model. I've read through the forum to get an idea of what I am in for. Thanks for the help!

Do you have a big screwdriver that fits the slot properly?  If not, get one.  If you do, and it will not budge, put some heat on it.  When I put my motors together, I put a drop of loc-tite on them to ensure they don't loosen up.  Maybe others do the same.  Heat will break the bond.  If that doesn't work, an impact driver would be my next step.

So standard tread? I didn't want to put an impact on it but will try again this weekend.

If you have a small propane torch, I would try that before the impact driver.

I think it is standard threads, but can't remember.  Old age is setting in!  Lol

I wouldn't be afraid to use an impact driver . If the screw won't budge by hand pressure and heat , like Rick said , an impact is the best next step .
 That's exactly why they were invented . ;)

Got it done this weekend. I torched it. Didn't budge easy but it finally broke free. I also pulled the crank pulley. Thanks to this site I knew ahead of time that it was left hand thread!

Good you got the screw out without too much trouble .

The direction for removal was stamped on the pulley on my motor .

Not always!  I have seen some with, some without.

Maybe due to Monday mornings and Friday afternoons ??? LOL
