Just took delivery on my 1950 md. L. What is the best fuel to oil ratio and brand of oil?

Just rode my 1950 Simplex. The last time I rode one was 1954. Feel young again. All I need now are the canvas bags from my paper route.

Welcome Gary!  Post some pictures of your bike!

You will find many different opinions on this, but I run 40-1 Echo brand oil.  We have discussed this a few times here, and it seems most are between 32-1 up to 50-1.

Welcome Gary . :)

If you felt anything like I did when I rode my '57 for the first time in 48 years , you had an ear to ear grin that didn't leave very soon . ;)

Fuel mix ratio logically depends on both the gasoline and oil being used . Different gasolines have different additives and different oils recommend different mix ratios . Remember that today's oils and fuels are much more 'advanced' than those available in the '50s .

Definitely post a few pics .

Pete . :)

I am using Royal Purple full synthetic (from Amazon) in a 40:1 mix, ($10.58/qt).  Simplex guru Wayne Mahaffey recommends using a fully synthetic oil.  I also got a mixing/measuring plastic bottle (by Shoreline) for $4 which works well to get the ratio you want.
