I was thinking about fixing this bike up but I can't find any markings or numbers on it saying what it is. The tire tubes say simplex and there is a metal piece on top talking about laying it down on side to get extra gas but that's about it. I don't know much about motor bikes so anything info would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome Tonya! That is around a 1945-1948 Simplex Servi-Cycle. On these early years, the motor has the number, which would give the exact year. Being that this bike is missing so many parts, it would not be economically feasible to restore to stock. It is, on the other hand, a perfect candidate for a more modern motor and drive train. Look around in the non-original engine section of this website and you will see many bike with Honda gx200 and clone motors on them.

Welcome Tonya, and like Rick said unless you have a big box of parts go with a honda. Also go with the GC not gx it will look more like it should, upright compared to a laydown motor. I'm all for vertical motors. 8)

Looks like a straight up 1948. I was told the 48 is the only one with the wide frame support. Plus it as the hole for the flywheel puller to bolt to.

Or go with a Honda clone GX laydown and save some time and money if you prefer to ride instead of wrench. ::)

I like it...if you can save the fenders that would be good for you too...they're not any easier to find then the rest of the parts.......welcome to the forum

Hey folks: While were here. I have a frame that has the seat spring in front of that cross bar. I think it is a 1945 . Any other ideas?

Mine mounts in FRONT of the cross bar . Any idea what year it might be ??

In the second pic , it looks to me like Tonya's spring is mounted just in front of the crossbar , not behind .

Pete, I think you need to have your eyes checked. Picture 4 clearly shows it behind the crossbar.

You seem to site the frame crossbar and I was talking about the seat crossbar .

I never considered the seat mount bracket as a crossbar, but you may be right. Butch?

I'm looking at the crossbar for the fender mount as my barrel spring mounts in FRONT of that..???

That answers the 'which crossbar' question .
Can you post a couple of pics of your seat spring set up ? Both the mount point on the frame and the bottom of the seat , Please .
I don't recall ever seeing a seat spring mounted forward like you describe .
