Title: badging
Post by: carryall on December 04, 2016, 11:49:48 AM
Did, or do, any Simplex's have a frame badge on their steering neck, like bicycles have?   I was considering applying a decal there, but wondered if there was actually an authentic one ever used or available?

I have seen many simplex's with a small winged Servi-Cycle logo on the neck. I'm not sure if this was factory or not, but I would guess it was. What years, I don't know.

Any that I've seen have been decals .

If you have a source or can punch a bunch of tin or nickle badges , I'd think more than one guy would be interested . ;)

Those molds were sold at the estate sale of Gary Wollard, and were made a loooooong time ago. I was told by someone in the know that they are probably not usable.  Buyer beware!

Not to mention , they seem to have been on Ebay many times over the past few years .

But , yes , something like that . ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of a stamped badge , rather than cast .
Maybe dreaming a bit .

A tin badge was what I was hoping for.  I started "playing with" a couple of cast emblems I had on hand.  Debating on the smaller one on my engine cover and the bigger one I took off, possibly on the headlight or as a fender tip? (Don't think I can form it without cracking on the steering head for a badge)  Not "sold" on the look of any of them yet.

The one on the headlight doesn't look too bad .

They seem a bit 'rough' . Is that from the mold or just wear ?

It's a casting flaw.  I'm not sold on using either of them but, the larger one might make a decent starting point for a front fender tip using "lost wax" method, or possibly a 3D printer if my buddy gets around to it.

3D might just be the way to go . I've seen some pretty decent things 'created'...

Ever notice the ServiCycle emblem looks like Batman's?  LOL
