Title: Check out this bad boy!
Post by: Klassic cycles on October 19, 2017, 07:17:36 PM
Seems that my first Simplex is a good one! 1940ish G model. It's a fairly complete bike not missing much. Won't be to hard to get together. I'm trying to load pics if anyone is interested in pics of it you can text me (209)993-5305 I'm in California. Or go search @klassiccycles on Instagram.

Welcome! Reduce the size of the pictures and you can fit 8 photos in one post.

I'm in the process of trying to reduce the size of the pics. They are in my phone and well I'm having problems!

That's a weird place for a brake pedal?¿ No wonder it has a front brake setup. I wouldn't want to be using it. Search eBay for the lights just stay away from the ones that want a Kings ransom for their junk. Look you can find a deal.

Evidently the older ones had a heel brake.  You get used to it like if you have a heel/toe shifter.  Just takes a while.

Posting some pics for Mike.  He has been in contact with Wayne and he thought this bike was an early 1940.  Engine number is G26104x.   I had him look where the frame number would be just in case there happen to be one and although it has the plate underneath it hasn't any number stamped there.

I like the head light stamped with Servi-cycle.  Gotta love that.

The more I look at this bike the more I notice it has a lot going on.  Wondering if it was border line a no clutch ride but either left the factory with the "new" clutch or perhaps someone added it.  It looks like it has the throttle/decompression mechanism like a direct drive.  Engine number is confusing but maybe engine was changed.  More of a later G.    Cool nice ride!

Thanks for posting the pics! There is a correction to the engine number. The correct number is G2604x. I'm having fun with this bike, and have yet to find someone who didn't want to help me out with it. You guys are a great group!

Who is the maker of that  headlamp?  I just read some info I have, and if you take the headlight apart, there should be a spare bulb behind the reflector, or a least a holder for one.

The headlight is stamped
SERVI CYCLE
SIMPLEX MFG
NEW ORLEANS LA
But I think it's a KD 869 motoscoot light. And your right about the clip to hold a spare bulb,it's in there.

That is not a kd869.  They started using the KD869 around 1943, and it is a much rounder light.
