Title: Survey says....It fits!
Post by: kartjockey on November 18, 2017, 03:09:50 PM
I bought one of these to give it a whirl.  Screws in no problem.  Someone must be repopping them for the old Harley guys.  Plus there are leather gaskets available for them too just search for them along the same lines as the cap listing.  I bought some of those too.  Real nice.  This cap is real nice.  Slight difference only because it has a pinhole in top for venting and it is nickeled.  I always prefer an original but I screwed this in my '48 to try it and I must admit the nickel color looks great!

I just invested in one of those myself at that price.  Great find!  Thanks for sharing.

Only issue I have with my new nickel plated cap is, it won't screw down all the way to seal with the gasket(leather)  I will look for a gas resistant thick rubber O-ring instead.  The Servi gas tanks aren't threaded far enough down for it. (1/8")
Did yours thread all the way down on your tank Kartjockey?

I seem to remember Tom telling me has a tap for the tank threads. If so, that is the solution.

I suppose but, more trouble than it's worth IMO and, I don't want to take a chance messing up anything on the gas tank.  Another option would be shave/grind off some of the threads from the bottom of the cap also.  It has plenty. (Too many actually)  I need to open up the breather hole on the bottom of it also.  There's a small check ball inside, that could prevent the draw of fuel.

That would be easy also on a lathe, even for a rank amateur like me.

That's a good idea using a lathe.  I don't have one but, I know someone who does.  Otherwise, I may just do the ol' belt sander with my reading glasses on.  LOL.

Paul ,

Just sit down with a cup of coffee and a decent flat file . You could have the thread depth of your desires in short order . ;)

Pete . :)

It's a good stainless steel.  File barely touches it.  I tried.  O-ring works fine.

I may still try contacting my friend with a lathe and get his opinion on shaving down some threads without damaging the cap while "chucking it up" tho.  I like that idea. ;D  Ended up that there wasn't a check ball inside...Just a piece of wire some how trapped inside.  Oh well, it's out anyways.
