Wheels & Tires / Rear brake used on front.
« on: May 14, 2021, 09:04:57 PM »
I've tried to read through all post concerning. I have a later model wide rear brake drum wheel im using on rear. I also have a skinny rear brake drum wheel that I did not narrow I'm using on front. By looking at pictures I think I saw some bikes with drum on front mounted on right side and another picture drum is on left. To successfully mount nonnarrowed drum wheel i removed stepped rocks arm bolt and used brass bushings using 3/8 bolts and installed from inside of forks  . I'm tinkering with anchoringg options now. One is extended bolt on main leg bolt i made.  Other option is a stiff leg mounted to main leg of Springer. I also picked up a workman steel rim with aluminum brake with cable and grip today.  I can always use that. I know this is long but did my best to explain. Bottom line you do not have to narrow hub to use. I have pictures of what I've done but don't know how to post. Old guy!

Introductions / Old guy back
« on: May 10, 2021, 07:27:15 PM »
After being gone for a couple years in back. I've always checked in from time to time but working on pipeline jobs across country kept me from building Simplex. I retired in December and received most of needed parts from Wayne today. I'll try to read and catch up with who is building what  I'll surely have questions.

Introductions / Old guy checking back in
« on: December 02, 2017, 06:31:22 PM »
Life and work has kept me from posting  And reading for several months. I found a rear wheel that is the wider version at a"first monday" here in Texas Friday. It was complete with all spokes and  brakes and axle in place. i bought it cheap. The guy thought it was a bicycle wheel. Everything was frozen up but I disassembled, cleaned and greased everything. It's  brake shoe return springs were rusted into. RickS told me that Wayne would have them. I'm catching up on everyone's builds and reading all posts tonight.

I have contacted Wayne on buying some parts. He has his torque convertors listed at $215.00. From information I have gathered from this board you can buy same convertor off the net for under $100.00. Am I missing something? Are Wayne's built just for him? If I do order off of net or a local shop what exactly do I need? I don't mind paying for Wayne's if that's what I truly need but don't want to spend an extra $100.00 if not needed. I can use that money for other parts. Could someone explain what I'm missing?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / GC 160 builds.
« on: May 17, 2016, 07:10:01 AM »
Could I get a list of people who have used the GC 160 Honda motor. I would like to talk with you on your problems if any. I would like pictures also if you have any, especially on the converter side. RickS shot me a few pictures on a PM. Looks like some are using a differential cover from a car as a flywheel cover. Thanks All

I guess some people may call them titles. Are any available? What do you do if you don't get a title with your bike?

I have a set of nice skinny tires and wheels that maybe someone restoring a bike may want to trade for the wider tires. I can send pictures of my skinnies if interested. My bike is a Mutt and thought someone may need these. Thanks TP

Introductions / New Old Guy
« on: May 08, 2016, 03:20:02 PM »
As all will find out in time, I am computer challenged. I have recently bought a pretty nice rolling chassis Simplex. I have contacted a couple of guys on here via email and they were very helpful. I tried logging on for several days with no luck. Anyway, I am old pipeline welder and now a construction manager for a major pipeline company. I am wanting to put a Horizontal head motor on the bike[for the look] and looking at options. I will read through all the post first and try not to ask any questions already covered. Remember me and computer are not best friends. I am currently trying to figure out what year my back is. I do not know how to post pictures but I do know how to send over the phone. I live in south Texas and currently working on project in east Texas. I also am building a 66 TT triumph bobber and a 59 buick 2 dr hrdtop. Hopefully I may be able to answer a few questions along the way. Thanks Guys looking forward to learning about my simplex. TP
