Introductions / Merry Christmas!
« on: December 25, 2020, 10:28:59 AM »
it's been a long time, but I finally got a lap top for Christmas, so I hope to be dropping by more often. Hope all is well and everyone is having a merry Christmas. I will try to spend the next few days catching up on all the new projects. So far from what I have seen there are a lot of new members and a lot of new projects.

Other Things Simplex / Nordland classic car auction
« on: June 01, 2015, 01:47:45 PM »
Hi all, I haven't been around much lately. My wife and I opened an ice cream and popcorn shop in Clarinda Iowa and it has been consuming all of my time for the last 6 months. This last week end Clarinda held the Ed Nordland classic car auction. There were a lot of classic cars in town for the auction and also a parade. One of the more rare vehicles auctioned was a 429 Boss Mustang that went for $174,000 I have been told. Pictured are some of the cars that were sold at auction and a few oics of other classic cars that stopped by the Popcream shop. Enjoy!

Buy, Sell, Trade / automatic transmission
« on: November 10, 2014, 07:15:15 PM »
I have an automatic transmission....was rebuilt by Wayne, new bearings, springs and mounting bracket. Wayne gets $400 for all I have, I would sell for $350. Also have both belts, all barely used.

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Conversion
« on: August 14, 2014, 04:41:54 PM »
Got my mounting plate, clutch, jack shaft and bearings from Wayne tonight. Looks like it is gonna be pretty simple to assemble. That's the way I like it! I am spray painting the plate tonight, and hope to start mounting things tomorrow after work. Wayne said I will have to do some tweaking on the exhaust and breather, but I am planning on making another exhaust and getting a different breather eventually. I am hoping I can put everything together and get it running and then work on it more this winter.

Other Things Simplex / New members
« on: August 11, 2014, 04:35:31 PM »
Are there any new members as a result of the promoting at Portland this year? I gave away a lot of free bumper stickers w/ the web site on them. I was hoping to see an increase in members. I also told an awful lot of ppl about it.

Buy, Sell, Trade / Simplex reproduction decals
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:43:32 PM »
I have some Sportsman tank decals that my wife and I reproduced. We have 2 red pr left but can have other background colors printed as well. These are not "water slide" decals, they are printed on a quality "air release" vinyl, so they don't have the air bubbles you get from regular vinyl, (same kind of vinyl that is used to wrap vehicles), and are laminated to protect from sun damage. They are thicker than regular decals, but will last a long time without fading. $30 pr plus shipping.

We also reproduced a speedometer back plate decal, pictured is a mock up of the decal in black and white, but if there was enough interest, we could print these in different colors as well. $8 plus shipping.
If anybody is looking to reproduce any decals, or even want something custom made up, let me know and I'll see what we can do. Portland is just around the corner.

Other Things Simplex / This forum is priceless
« on: February 15, 2014, 07:30:19 AM »
I would just like to take a minute to thank everyone on this forum. I can't imagine what it would be like to try and restore one of these bikes without this invaluable wealth of information. You guys are amazing! I would venture to say that there is probably more info on here than Simplex even had when they were building the bikes.

Engine & Transmission / Bolt size for cylinder
« on: January 24, 2014, 08:55:35 PM »
Can someone tell me what size bolt to use on the cylinder? I can get bolts to fit on the one side...but I can't find bolts short enough to fit in the tight space that are long enough to get a nut on. Is there suppose to be a stud, or is there a bolt that fits ???

Other Things Simplex / vmbc web site
« on: November 23, 2013, 07:40:34 PM »
I saw on the vmbc web site there must have been some "spatting" goin on a while back. Was there some complaining done with the president? I haven't seen any updates on the site for quite a while. I stopped even checking the forums... not even worth the time. That is a shame that there are that many members in the club and no one wants to take the time to do any updating. I sure had a blast at Portland this year, I hope they decide to make some changes to the web site and forums....it does not take long for a BIG event to turn into a small event when organizers start fighting.

Wheels & Tires / Mounting rear wheel
« on: July 30, 2013, 06:27:57 PM »
I installed a new rear axle in my rear wheel tonight and went to mount it with 2 new acorn nuts from Wayne, and the acorn nuts bottom out before I get it tight enough to hold the wheel on. I can put some spacers on each side, but the book don't show any spacers. Am I doing something wrong, Or missing something???

Restoration Projects / Sonrisers 55'
« on: April 13, 2013, 08:26:19 PM »
Thought I would post some pics, and start my "build topic", Not much to look at yet, but hopefully I will remember to add pics as it progresses. Frame is almost ready for powdercoat, got the wheels stripped down and ready for blasting. Just got my carb and breather back from getting polished. Got a friend that has been polishing for years, does a really good job, and very reasonable  prices.

Engine & Transmission / disassemly of clutch
« on: April 10, 2013, 08:44:18 PM »
How do you disassemble the clutch??? I have taken all bolts out and removed the clutch side pulley and weights, but can't get the "split pulley apart". Is this just pressed in or am I missing something? I have looked at the diagrams in the manuals section, but I can't see how it comes apart. Have also been searching the forum. Please help, or direct me to the right place on the forumm as I'm sure somebody has already posted something. Thanks.
