Introductions / It's been a while from VMBC
« on: February 13, 2017, 06:20:59 PM »
Hello Gents,

It's been a while since I have posted anything, and I'm not sure if this is even the right area to post this. Doesn't seem to be a off topic area so if this is not the right category, feel free to move it.  I posted this once before about this time last year that the VMBC has been offered again a spot to advertise our club at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, IA. The Vintage Rally Show will be held Saturday June 10th, 2017. We have the opportunity to advertise our club in a space provided by the museum for free. All we need is a VMBC member willing to represent our club and answer any questions that may come his, her way. Last year we provided a few magazines and club business cards to pass out for free at the event. You could google the event for more information if you'd like. The only catch is we need to have an idea if we would like to reserve a space within a week. So if you'd like to represent our club please email me at dchafin1122@gmail.com asap.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. See you all at Portland in just a few more months!

Other Things Simplex / Simplex Compact wireing
« on: July 08, 2016, 09:57:06 PM »
Hello all,
Portland is just around the corner and I'm in a mad dash to try and get this girl done, but I'm having some issues. One thing that is baffling me is the ignition switch. I figured I might get an answer here. I have a 303 headlight with a Simplex switch in it. How many positions should the switch have? Of course there is off and on but it there another position where it allows the ignition to remain on while lights are off? The switch has 4 leads on the back of it. I take it two supply power to the headlight ( one for each filament). The other two are run to the back of the headlight posts or terminals. One to kill the motor and one to a positive to supply power to the headlight. So far does this sound right? What's got me puzzled is the tail light. Is it always on with no way to turn it off? This is all based on typical Simplex operation.

any help will be appreciated.

Buy, Sell, Trade / Simplex Sportsman Compact Tank Decals
« on: February 26, 2016, 04:07:04 PM »
Hello all,
As some of you may have seen, my little simplex is coming along on the vmbc facebook group. I'm real close to spraying color on some of the framework. I really need tank decals to match up to if they have a red in the background. If they are a sort of water slide that treats the decal as transparent where the paint shows through...that'll be great but I need to know. So if you are aware of someone who supplies these decals, please let me know! Wayne does not supply these for the compact, and really has few parts for these little bikes.

Thanks,
Darren

Restoration Projects / Simplex Sportsman Compact
« on: January 27, 2016, 06:36:26 PM »
I have a compact that I'm in the middle of restoring right now. I bought this little gem at Portland a year ago and I'm going to try and have it done for this year. I'm in need of the chain guard to buy or at least a picture of one so that I can make one reasonably close to an original. I also need some foot pegs made by bates, a rear taillight, and handle bar grips. I'm not sure what the grips should look like. I have the original aluminum caps that butt up to the grips but I have no idea what they should look like. I'm curious as to if the grips that were on other Simplex models would fit? You can also follow my progress on the VMBC Facebook group. Ask to join and we'll set you up.

If you have any help or information to offer I will check back here once in a while or you may email me at dchafin1122@gmail.com

Thanks,
Darren

Introductions / VMBC would like to say hello
« on: October 25, 2014, 05:54:40 AM »
Hello guys,
This is Darren. I haven't visited here in a while. Life has been crazy since the meet. The wife, kids, and I have enjoyed this past summer with little weekend vacations to car shows and Indian motorcycle club gatherings. I can't believe the summer is gone and the cold is starting to just linger around now with only a few peaks of warm air hear and there.

I didn't really know where to post this since it isn't related to this website in a way, but I'm looking for some club member participation in testing out a VMBC forum with me. This is really about the only site that I'm aware of that some of you participate in. I need about half a dozen guys that are somewhat familiar with using a forum and a computer. I'll be looking for suggestions that will aid in making the VMBC forum easier for use and to make sure it works well for what we require in the forum. The design is not complete and can be modified to fit our needs should we determine that modification is needed for a more pleasing experience.

If you would like to participate in this please email me at dchafin1122@gmail.com

In addition to that, if you are aware of a scooter related event please send me and info that you may have. A flyer of the event would be great!

Thanks
Darren

Introductions / Hello everyone from the Vintage Motorbike Club
« on: June 18, 2014, 06:26:50 PM »
Well the 42nd Vintage Motorbike Meet held in Portland Indiana is fast approaching. 8) While our website is up and running, it has been a struggle and disappointment this past year. We are still believe it or not working on getting a more modern forum built for it. :( It will not be done before this upcoming meet though. However, we have formed a Facebook group. Of course it takes friends to make a group click on Facebook. If you would like to join our group and hear the latest in what's happening with the VMBC please put a request in to join at Vintage Motor Bike club! Pay close attention to the spelling and font because there are many other groups on Facebook with like wording. If you see Jenni affiliated with it that is the group you want. Someone has mentioned the dates of our meet, but I have no idea who that is. Give us a 12 hour period to welcome you into the group.

If I don't hear from you in our Facebook group I will look forward to seeing you all at Portland. Take care and ride safe! :)
