Wheels & Tires / Wizard Front Hub
« on: April 23, 2015, 03:29:52 PM »
So I figured out why the front hub on my Wizard looks so odd but is the original crème color of Simplex.
A PO has taken the hub completely apart and reassembled it backasswards.
I wasn't aware the hub ends could be separated from the inner portion but they surely can.
It took a lot more engineering to put it back together incorrectly and make it fit than just put it back together the correct way.

It wasn't a big show since it was in front of my house.
They had to see some sunshine and all the neighbors stopped by.
I've also picked up pieces for another restoration project.

Took the Wizard for a ride today. Put a reproduction carb on, put a compression stuffer plus a new cover, cleaned and sealed the tank, replaced the throttle and choke cables, repaired the threads on the flywheel to hold the pinion gear and off she goes. I also pulled the jug and cleaned the old carbon deposits. Starts on third kick every time.

I got a chance to take a couple of rides today.
All the neighbors seem to come out and watch when I get the bikes out.

I picked this Simplex up last week. You all probably saw it on EBay but it didn't sell so I sent the guy a low ball offer and we came to terms.
Frame # 13314 which I think should make it a 1956 or 57. Brake light switch tab is on top of the lower frame.
It had a J motor on it with an iron cylinder. All incorrect for this bike.  Motor number J6223
I have an extra M motor and transmission but what I like about it is the paint is all original and I plan on leaving it that way. A PO had put Sportsman Stickers over the original Simplex Automatic decals, I was able to get the Sportsman stickers off with some sticker remover and lots of care leaving at least a sign of the original Automatic decals.
The rags in the gas tank are wicks in case I get to mad.

Other Things Simplex / New Simplex on EBay

I thought someone put one of my bikes on EBay but it is just it's twin.
He says it's a '53 but the motor number looks to be around '56.

Item # 121502589466

I'm anxious to see what it brings.

I picked up a GC 190 motor on Craigslist pretty cheap, like I need another winter project. I'll try and post pics as it comes together.

Here's a picture of the bike I picked up from Stafford and a couple pictures of before and after of a 54 that Wayne is rebuilding for me. He is almost done, just lacks the exhaust, seat and flywheel cover.

I got the Simplex bug. I picked up what is suppose to be a 1952.
Frame number is 10192
Motor number is M15223B

Can anyone tell me if these numbers would be a 52?
