Introductions / Re: Got my Dad's Servi coming from Colorado
« on: July 11, 2015, 11:39:04 AM »
Well, I see that you guys rock already! I'm in the Santa Cruz mountains (OK, to a Colorado girl, they are more like little hills, but then everything is marketed as bigger in California...) The bike bits are being crated and shipped as we speak, for the low, low cost of one helluva lot. My sisters are wrangling over the Harley Super 10 and the Shortster (no one wants a minibike...)

The Ducati boy just shakes his head and walks away, so no worries. All of his bikes are older (when Ducs were cool, and no one knew that Italians pay extra for gnats in the paint). A 907, and a Laguna Seca race-prepped F1. I'll keep mine...2 70's era Honda 400Fs in varying stages of decay and a tiny, angry 64 CB72 with a cylinder issue. Then we move on to the 71 BMW 2002...a great car, but the wipers don't work and when you turn on the heater, the engine dies. I sense electrical... The SV, however, is the issue primo!

I'll send all pics when I get them. One interesting bit was a rubber pedal-ey thing, with a K and star on each end. HHHMMM...

Sounds like you have to sign up for more forums... just simplex here.
Don't waste any money on manicures while you're wheeling spanners, just a Jumbo tub of GO-JO and a HUGE box of shop rags should do it.
keep us posted.

Just looked and saw this.  I bet this would do the trick!

I think the radius might be a little much

Nice drawings Pete!  This should be a relatively easy project, if you have a tubing bender and welder.

Great pictures! good Info! I should have it from here... Thanx PD and Rick

I'll let you in on a little trick my broyher-in-law showed me...

cap one end of the tube fill with with play sand and then cap the other end of the tube, place the tube in a vice and heat the back side of your bend with a torch untill it turns a dull orange and make your bend slowly. The sand will keep the pipe/tube from collapsing. uncap the pipe/tube and dump out the sand.
I used this trick to make a 2" coil out of 3/8" copper tubing for a still head condenser.

Does anyone else think this price is out of line?  I get that the guy has some neat pictures, but do they significantly increase the value of the bike?  Asking $10,500, and not even one current picture seems way out of line to me.  I would think that very few Simplex bikes would come even close to that number, let alone a late model automatic.

What say you guys?

I sold cars back in the 80's and we had a saying... "There's an ass for every seat"
maybe he should keep it and not sell it (the seat that is)

Thanks Gary!  Looks like im missing a bunch of brackets.. At least I know what im looking for

goto the manuals section and print out the manual for your bike (H model)... there's a real good "Parts Catalog" there.
That way If/When you call Wayne Mahaffey you can call the parts you're looking for by the proper name/nomenclature or you can refer to a page# and part#... real nice guy and he's all about keeping these bikes on the road!

Other Things Simplex / Re: Portland 2015
« on: June 20, 2015, 11:52:03 AM »
Just over 2 months to go!  I need to do a few things on the Sportsman to call it finished.  The auto transmission is engaging too early, I think it may have incorrect springs on the clutch shoes.  I also got a new pair of weights from Wayne for the double track clutch, as the ones in there have been modified, for some unknown reason.

Anybody else getting ready?

can you direct me to the site/info for portland?
and any info on the camp site?
I'm thinking of going.

I was thinking of maybe adopting your frame that had the crash bars removed ... what would be the damage on this gem?
