Help I Need a Flywheel
« on: October 02, 2019, 05:29:42 PM »
Hey Guys, I got my Simplex Automatic all put together but I haven't been able to get the flywheel to work. I've got a Phelon flywheel but it's to wide for the shaft and the pinion gear just tightens the flywheel. Does anyone have or know of a narrower wheel I can use/buy? Thanks!

Post a couple of pictures so we can see what you are working with.  There is only one phelon flywheel for Simplex.

Like Pete said, we need a picture of the inside of the stator.

Does the crankshaft turn freely before you put the flywheel on?

Is the crankshaft seated all the way into the bearings?  If the crank isn't truly seated, putting the flywheel on will put it into a bind.

What is the width of the stator bearing?

You should have a washer between the flywheel and the kickstart gear.

I had Wayne rebuild the engine and he told me that the flywheel would work. When I went to put it on, the threads on the crankshaft begin before the flywheel. So the pinion gear doesn’t reach the end of the threads because the flywheel is in the way... This puts too much force on the flywheel causing it to freeze up. Without the flywheel, the motor turns fine. It has all new internals - piston, bearings and etc. I just think that this particular flywheel is too wide for the shaft...

It’s not allowing me to attach a photo - it’s saying the photo is too large.

You will need to resize ypur photos.  I always run pivs through my laptop then ise wimdows to resize to 480X640.  Works
around there.

I measured my phelon flywheel that is off of an engine.  Placed flat on a table is measures 2 1/8" tall.

I just looked at my flywheel , mounted , and you have less pinion gear threads showing than what shows on mine .
There's about an 1/8" - 3/16" clearance between the flywheel edge and the stator plate .

We need to see the inside pics of both flywheel and stator .
Sounds like maybe something is missing .

I use https://postimages.org to host my pics . Free and very easy . Choose to auto size all to 480 x 640 .

Pete . :)

Pete, I wish you would quit telling people to host their pictures outside of this site.  Picture hosting here is simple.  We already saw what happens when you hosted pictures on an outside site, and they changed the rules.  Now there are many blank links that make no sense as we can not see the pictures any longer.

OK , Rick .
I won't make that suggestion anymore , unless someone asks .
