opinions on cover vs no cover on my bike

When I repaired my bent motor mount I decided to try a larger drive pulley (3.5" to a 4") for lower RPM's at cruising speed and a little more top speed. before I reassembled, I went ahead and painted the clutch cover and driven clutch.  I'm considering not putting my cover back on?  opinions?

I like the open primary look.  I think the cover looks very bulky.

I like the look of the open primary, but the safty of the cover. your bike your call. no cover show , cover on ride. Bill Marcum

Maybe I'll make a piece that just covers just the top of the clutch and try that?.  Hate to get a pant leg caught in it is my only concern...

I think there needs to be something there, but I don't like the flat panel cover look either.  Maybe a partial cover like old Indians used to use maybe??

I never caught my pants in the open primary on the 3 wheel tribute I built.  But then again, I almost always wear shorts!

Yea I think just a cover on the outside leaving the top open would look nice. You know O.S.H.A. has no control over your bike just your work.

I like the hefty material you used and the general design , but I'd have made it a bit more encompassing and closer . What you have , then add that much to the top , following the line of the belt , and that much to the bottom .

I like that! With these bikes, our legs are pretty far forward and don't get too close to the drive clutch.

 For now I put 2 washers under the bracket closest to the cover as shims, but after I run it this weekend I will watch and see how far the belt rides up in the drive clutch and probably get rid of at least one, if not both of the washers to bring it down closer to the pulley.

Took it out today and ran it up to almost full speed to see how far belt runs up in the drive clutch and was able to drop the guard down closer.  Amazed at how much smoother the bike ran with the 4" pulley at cruis'n speed. (35mph)  I didn't run it out at full speed but did get it up to about 45mph before backing out of throttle.  fastest moped in my neighborhood.  Headed to car show with it.
