new guy here
« on: December 16, 2012, 06:48:57 PM »
hey everyone!
just picked up two simplex servicycles and plan on restoring them here in the near future.
both bikes are near complete and appear to be somewhere around the 50s models. pics to come as soon as i figure how to post here. been restoring minibikes for a few years and looking forward to graduating to something larger.
im in los angeles and would like to say hi to all simplex lovers everywhere. ive got many questions as im new to simplexes.
id like to start by asking if there are any simplex guys in los angeles and are there any engine gurus in my neck of the woods. i plan to go with an original engined bike and a conversion engined bike without modifications to the frame.
hope to hear from you guys soon!

Welcome to the site James ... :)

You might start a build thread . We like pics . ;)

I'm sure you'll be asked to post both the frame and motor #s . The frame #s are just behind the steering neck on the underside , if there are any . Motor #s are towards the bottom left side .
Goes around , Comes around . :)

I get this message when I hit that link you posted :

You must be a registered user to view images!

You can post images right from your computer . I usually just hit the preview button below the quick reply box . Then click Additional Options . Then the Browse button .

If you can size your pics to 640x480 , they will fit nicely within this or most other forum formats .

You can also use a hosting service like Photobucket and have them re-size all your pics at upload .
Goes around , Comes around . :)

Wayne Mahaffey can build the engines for you, or he will have the parts so you can do it yourself.  There should be a manual that applies to your bike on here in the "Manuals and Such" section.

Hi James and welcome to this site. I live in Southern California and got into Servicycles just a little over a year ago. I have three bikes but do not consider myself a guru at all. I've learned alot this past year simply by reading the comments posted on this forum by others. I look forward to conversing with you as you progress with your restorations. I'm not as knowledgable as the others on this site but if I can be of any help just ask.

Hey James,

Until I saw the pics of your Simplexes I thought you might have got the sister's to the one I just got 2 weeks ago! I'm in Mission Viejo and the guy I got mine from in Newport Beach had 4 Simplexes for sale. I've also been chasing the one in El Monte, but can't get with the seller.

In case you weren't aware, the Long Beach Motorcycle swap meet is this Sunday. I don't know if anybody has Simplex parts since I never needed any until now :)
