Just some brown leather dye and hit it very lightly. They discontinued the brown leather that Wayne at Heathers Leathers has used for years.

I picked up a GC 190 motor on Craigslist pretty cheap, like I need another winter project. I'll try and post pics as it comes together.

Bill,
Here is a picture of the big seat Simplex made which I was telling you about yesterday next to one of the new ones we got from Heather's Leathers.

Thanks for the info. I talked with BJM yesterday at their shop and got info from him too.

Where can you find the lighting coils and steel flywheels for the GC190 engine?
I picked up a GC190 for one of my extra frames and need a third winter project.

It looks so good I didn't want to ride it.

But I had to and it rides great.

The red looks faster, it just might win a slow race.

Finally got it home and took it for a ride, Wayne had a time getting the chrome done on the tail light and the rubber pad for the brake but he got those and I picked it up this past Saturday. It's nice!

Here's a picture of the bike I picked up from Stafford and a couple pictures of before and after of a 54 that Wayne is rebuilding for me. He is almost done, just lacks the exhaust, seat and flywheel cover.

Other Things Simplex / Re: where is everyone

Stafford,
I couldn't make it to Portland this year either, after the trip to Texas to pick up that bike and vacation over the 4th with the family but I plan on going next year. That bike is a 49 and not a 47. The K motor was only made in 1949. I have repaired the throttle and took it to a small antique bike show in Chesnee, SC last week end. It had more pictures taken of it than any other bike there and I'm sure I could have sold it at least 20 times if it was for sale.

BJM,
I'll bring this bike by your shop for you and Billy to look at next week.

Engine & Transmission / Re: Phelon Wiring

Does anyone know what years did they use the Phelon magnetos?
Was it specific model years or were they just mixed as the demand increased?

Introductions / Re: Another Alabama Newbie

There is not a serial number on this motor. I took it to Wayne yesterday and he said he has seen a few like this. Seems at some point early on in it's life the owner must have sent the motor back to Simplex for repair and they replaced the lower unit and he said they did not serialize them when this occurred. It is an "M" motor. The transmission is a 1953 according to Wayne. He said the only year they made the automatic transmission with the barbell style weights was in 53.
Looking at the registry the frame number would fall in the 53 range I believe.

I picked up an "L" motor along with this bike. It's serial number is L11078M.

I thought it was an 8 at first but my old eyes now tell my old brain that I can faintly see a straight line leading upward from the top half of the backward "C". I think once I get the paint knocked off of it I should be able to see it a bit better.
