Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Re: Gas Tank Sealer
« on: August 23, 2013, 01:09:46 PM »
Thanks guys! I have some bicycle parts soaking in Oxalic Acid this very minute. Good to know that I don't need anything stronger than that for the Simplex tank. Glad to hear the positive reviews on the Caswell. I'll be taking an auto body repair class this Fall, and the Simplex will be my project. I'll be trying the Caswell under the instructors guidance, just cause I'm a 'fraidy cat the first time around.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Gas Tank Sealer

Got my gas tank off and stripped down. Bare metal looks good from the outside, but I've shaken out some pretty thick pieces of rust from the inside. Fishing for the best tried and true method for rust removal in this type of situation. And has anyone tried this product or similar products? If so, what is your opinion of them?

I wish I was able to make this meet, but Portland Oregon, and Portland Indiana are just a little bit too far apart for this ol' fart. I hope everyone has a great time there.

Hurry hurry hurry there's a teardrop lens on ebay #171063789149 if I didn't transpose any numbers starting price .99ยข  ???

Hi, I just saw your post. Although, by the time I saw it, the auction had ended. I hope someone on here got the lens. I'm happy with the tail light that I bought from a member on my old bicycle forum, so I'm no longer looking. Thanks to everyone for their input and help with this light.

Will do. Iron Ranch is mainly a bicycle/Whizzer swap meet that's held the 3rd Saturday each September. It's not unusual to see a Simplex or two. There's acres of old machinery, trucks, logging equipment, etc., with many outbuildings filled with restored/waiting to be restored toys, pedal cars motorcycles/bikes bicycles machinery, and what have you. Thus the name Iron Ranch. A great time for buying, selling and just wandering around on a misty Pacific Northwest morning and looking at old rust. Here's a very small sample of a past meet.

Hi, Rich-
Welcome to the site! I just saw your post. Whereabouts in Oregon? I'm just South of Portland. I'll be putting my '49 Simplex together this Summer and hopefully have it up and running in time for the Iron Ranch Swap Meet in Ridgefield Wash. this September.

Buy, Sell, Trade / Re: Teardrop Tail Light
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:58:45 PM »
While we're waiting for Mike's reply from Norm....the one I purchased is like the one that old servi (Pete) posted in another thread in "Other things Simplex. My understanding from Pete is that it's very similar to the Simplex tail light, but there is only one bulb and the glass is solid red rather than clear at the bottom as the Simplex lens would have. Both lights however, were manufactured by Zephyr and styling is identical. I purchased mine from a fellow member on my Antique and Collectable Bicycle website, but that was the only one that he had. Attached is a photo of the one that Pete offered to sell me, which is exactly like the one I purchased, and I believe Pete's is still for sale.

Other Things Simplex / A tip o' the hat to Wayne Mahaffey

I just wanted to pay some recognition to Wayne and the great service he provides us Simplex owners. I'm sure some of us would be pretty hard pressed to find our missing parts without him. I certainly was. I know you'll probably never see this, but THANKS WAYNE!!!

I let Pete know that I will taking a different route with the tail light. So I believe that the one he posted is still available if anyone else is interested.
