Thanks for spotting this Reese. I've been waiting to hear back from a member on another site regarding a Zephyr tail light that he has.

Thanks everybody!!! It appears that Karjockey's suggestion would work best until the correct tail light comes along. I'll see if I can find one of these. Might as well start here. Does anyone have one of these? Also, Wayne informs me that there is someone that is making reproduction lenses. Not cheap, around $100.

Unfortunately, a tail light wasn't among any of the auction items that Wayne had purchased. There are some good suggestions here. The more the better!

Like Dave Beck, I too am looking for a complete teardrop tail light with lens. If these things start coming out of the woodwork :),I'd like to place myself in line after him.
Thanks.

I'm looking for a Simplex teardrop tail light, but until the real thing comes along, does anyone have a suggestion about a similar looking style from some other motorcycle or ???? that could work and might be a little easier to find?

This may be a dumb question, but since it's a either/or proposition, would there be any engine performance difference between the longer pipe and the stubby one?

Talked to Wayne this week. Nice guy! Gave him the list of everything that I need. I'm hoping that he'll be able to locate that one last item. I don't know what the total is yet, but I'm sure it's not going to be cheap. I've waited a long time to get to this project and I'm giving myself the rest of the year to complete it. It would be nice if there was someone nearby to walk me through it, but there isn't, so that's why I'm giving myself a year. I do have a '48 manual though, and that should help a lot. Just one question, Which of the following three would be correct for my '49? Just a one piece muffler can with a short exhaust pipe or a long double exhaust pipe, or a long single exhaust pipe? Again, this is a '49 "K" motor.

I agree ,,  alloy jug with zinc base   1950 ish    earlier was cast iron jug and later had alloy base with zinc rotary valve ( that was good for splitting across the keyway )    good project !! thanks for posting it ! :)

Thanks for your input Larry. I just bumped into your post. Sorry it took so long. I don't quite understand. Are you saying that the alloy jug w/zinc base (mine with '49 K serial number) is preferable to both earlier and later motors?

Hey hotrod-
I'm just about 30 miles south of Portland. Where are you? I've got a '49 that I've been trying to complete for a long time, but I'm certainly no expert. Congratulations on your new Simplex.

Will anyone here actually be attending the Wollard Auction? 3500 miles is a bit of a stretch for me.

Guilty!!! When it finally decides to stop raining here, you push your chair away from the computer. It decided to stop raining. Still alive and well.

I bet I'll just be getting an echo bouncing off the wall, but is there anybody out there that's close to Portland, OR?

Dominic, If you haven't already you might want to look at the air cleaner page in the Simplex parts catalog(manuals and such) Then correspond to the part number. Looks like the one on the right tends to match up to the K model.

Thanks Kartjocky. Just what I needed to know. Guess I need to spend some time in Manuals and Such.

Thanks a lot Mike. I threw my neck out trying to spin my head around fast enough to see the spoke pattern in the second picture of the bump test.
