This may be a dumb question, what type of air cleaner is used on an early '49 with a K model motor?

These photos were in my intrduction. I could not locate a serial number for the frame, as there was no plate under the neck. You guys have concluded the frame is an early '49 based on the fender braces and location of the kickstand. the motor was purchased separately from the frame, so I'll consider myself very lucky if the serial #K00284A on the motor is correct for this frame.

my bike has brand new (but 15 years old) Schwinn Typhoon Cord tires on it, 2.125".  I don't think they have any miles on them due to the presence of the molding flash still on the tread face.  They look pristine with no age cracks (probably from being inside & out of the sun all this time).  I"m going to see if I can sell them to someone who's a schwinn collector & then buy the expensive correct tires.  The Schwinns don't look too bad on those wide rims thou....

Mike-
You asked me about those tires when I first signed on to this site. I looked on ebay and based on the guys pricing, who always charges too much
($95 shipped for a pair of NOS) I'd say $75 shipped for the pair would be fair. JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, nothing would give her greater pleasure than having to deal with all my bike stuff. No Mike, in that regard I'm quite sure she'd rather keep me around for a while. At least long enough for me to liquidate them all. I'd really hate to have to saddle her with all that, so please, for her sake, keep this site interesting enough for me to choose life.

Well.. I was going to hold off for a while on suggesting initiation ceremonies & secret handshakes, but since you brought it up....
Regarding the suicide rate in the PNW, it was either commit suicide or sign up on this site. I hope that I made the right decision.

Couldn't we just have a General Category called "Registry". Once you know the serial numbers and year you could post them under this topic along with photos of your bike.

Since I'm new here, I'm a little hesitant to start making suggestions, but if there were a separate category for people to post their introduction, it might help the other categories from being peppered with introductions. I know that when I signed on, it was unclear as where to post my introduction.
The weather is pretty crappy here today and since my Simplex is buried behind a bunch of other bikes, I can't pull it out to read the serial numbers and get better photos to post. I promise to get this done on the next nice day. This is Oregon, so who knows when that will be.

Grew up in Cleveland Ohio, but I've spent the last 40 or so years in Portland, OR.

Hi Wallace! Brand new here myself. Great bunch of guys. Started answerin' questions even before I started askin' 'em. I'm a little younger than you, but I still fall into the old fart category.

Did you notice that his front fender braces are of the early style?  I won't be surprised if he doesn't have a frame number.  It looks like a decent start of a bike.....after 30 years it's been patiently waiting for you!!!

If your a bicycle guy, are my nos Schwinn 26x2.25 (or is it 2.125....I'll have to look again) tires worth anything?  They're about 10 years old, but have never been out in the sun & have always had air in them.

Post a photo of the tires when you get a chance. Show tread, markings, and a side view. I'll ask a friend who knows value better than I. Where do I need to look for the serial number on the frame?

Right now the Simplex is buried behind a bunch of other bikes. I'm going to pull it out and get the serial numbers from the frame and motor. Hopefully the year of the motor will be correct for the year of the frame, as they were purchased separately years ago.

Just found this site. So, after several years I'm finally going to finish trying to find the rest of the parts that I need to complete my '48 Simplex. The story behind this one, is that I bought it about 30 years ago, collected and chromed a bunch of parts and then sold everything, for what reason, I don't know. For years I regretted that decision and finally bought it back a couple of years ago. It's now a little worse for the wear from sitting in a musty old barn and missing some parts. I'm looking forward to exploring this site and meeting other Simplex owners and locating some parts. Just in case anyone is interested, my other two wheeled interests include, prewar balloon tire bicycles of which my main focus is Cleveland Welding, Colson and Schwinn, and yes, there is the obligatory Whizzer or two.
