Restoration Projects / Re: A rider ...
« on: October 23, 2012, 06:21:19 PM »
Years ago I used  " Plumbers goop" adheseve and clamped the magnet back in where it was ,  Then I drilled and countersunk 8 holes in the flywheel outside circumference that allowed 8/32 countersunk screw heads to push through the holes and pass through to   the tips   ( or sides ) of those curved magnet shoes . then had a very experienced welder , tig the screw ends to the tip of the pole pieces  ( all of then ) Sorry I don't have photo ,   did'nt get hot where the glue was ,so it worked out with out issue ;D ,   I have 57 scooter manual with magnets on alternate position also but all my phelon mags have the magnets symetrical ,   Only two magnets in the right place are needed for spark    the other two augment ( I love that word ,,,, been wanting to use it all week ! ) the lighting output  ,,  I'm sure couterweight is on opposite side .

Betcha It's an old Zundapp !    metric screw sizes  ( or 26 tpi british standard cycle )  would  tell the country of origin ,   ( certainly servicycle influenced )   Interesting enigma .

Hi Mike ,,    The 3 position switch  transfers the power from the hi beam to low beam , with  a wire from each beam going to each terminal on the tail light bulb .   the tail light has two filiments   so there will be something glowing back there when the switch " switches "   call if questions   Larry   314 609 6569 :D

Hi there ,,, the pulleys were welded on the late model motorscooters ,  not the servicycles ,   the pulleys were bigger and they made for a better drivability,

Hi  Mike !  is your old cylinder missing or too far oversize to bore out again ?   some machine shops can sleeve practically (sp?) anything .     Maybe wayne could sleeve it for you , He seems to be up for interesting challenges , Photo maybe could be the thing to get our brains "jump started"      take care   Larry.

Hello !   I hope you don't mind me asking ,,   Does the seat spring support you O.K. ?my servicycle spring is way too weak for my skinny butt ( 170  lbs)   keeps hitting the fender if I don't dodge cigarette butts ,   Engine looks frankenstein , but should do alright if it's tight   that early belt setup might drive you nuts at first ( like it did me)  once plumbed up , it does alright ,   Please don't hesitate to ask stuff ,  these engines are very " different"  and have specific idiosynchrocies b( hope I spelled that right )   thank you for the excellent photos and good luck with your project ,    Larry.

Hello ,,, I was refering to my old simplex step through scooter,...   The early ones had a bolt on pulley and about 1959 started to weld on a larger pulley directly on the pressed ( or spun ) steel rim ,    also later models had larger diameter  Idler pulleys ,    There were on the servicycles , at least a couple sizes of intermediate pulleys, member clwebster just purchased a primary belt from wayne, so I think that one would fit yours, ,,,,,,best to measure ,   I keep pieces of broken belts to wrap around pulleys to measure and get greatest accuracy,    Best wishes ,,,,, : Larry.   p.s.   glad your engine is running ,  that must have been a real brain squeeze ! ???   You get at least 10 gold stars for trying and an A+ for effort !      ;D

What Year is my Bike? / Re: 56 or 57 - Whats with the 150cc Decal
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:12:22 PM »
Hi there ,,, for what it's worth ,   My old titled 1958 scooter had the early style spring tensioner pully and the early style bolt on smaller diameter rear wheel pulley ,   I remember it also having the 150 cc decal on the headlight shell and the 150 cc cylinder and piston,   ( I remember ordering rings from Hastings corp.  the size was 2 3/16    by 5/64 )    I can"t for the life of me tell you why that stayed in my brain !!  I sold the scooter to a fellow on California named Bill Powell. ( I think maybe 1973 )   Best wishes on your project

I agree,  you can get killed with something like that,   The servicycle is an enjoyable ride the way it is ,  frame and running gear is a little more than a bicycle , I strongly suggest no greater than 7 horsepower.   please be careful !    in any event , best wishes !   think about posting progress      Larry. :o
