Kartjockey that is it! I was at Jim Lokie's house on Thursday and found a black and white picture in a 1954 Speigal Catalog of a Simplex Truck with the same tow bar setup-I will post it here.

Reverse image misprint? All the stuff is backwards, including brake pedal and air cleaner.

Being this was in a Speigel catalog, there is a good chance that the leather jacket was not Simplex, but who knows?

Also interesting is the fact that the tow bar parts list does not list the welded on plates, but does list the extended rocker studs for use with the tow bar. I wonder why Simplex changed from one to the other?
I hope Bob Legron is at Portland, maybe he has some knowledge on this.
