HOW haveyou mounted a Comet CVT type clutch on a Simplex?

With the slanted cylinder the Comet hits the frame and almost dictates that the engine be raised up very high.

The ones pictured on this site seem to have the frame extended but I can't believe that.

There is a beautiful white one that even uses an electric starter but it fits mounting it at the original engines heigth. Are there different length franes?

HELP! Any ideas and pictures of sucessful mountings would help.

post some pictures of how your engine is mounted if you will

Thanks

Hmmmm.... bolt-on sprocket! has anyone tried one on a simplex wheel?

With the drum would there be room? the stock wheel hub housing is not smooth, would that be a problem?

Something to think about. Maybe just remove stock pulley and bolt on?

Comments?

I ordered a set from Pirate but they wouldn't work (I don't remember why) and they were good enought to take them back. The ones they sent were not worksman but another they handle.

What wheels? Did you just mount a sprocket on stock? If so how?

Slightly different problems with my slanted cylinder 212cc Honda clone because of clearance issues so I decided to try to find a chain/drum rear wheel.

Like the drum front wheel idea though. What part number did you order for the Worksman wheels? I thought about the 77A for the front and 77AR for the rear but no real info is available for them.

Thanks

Tom

At the point of finally ready to make engine mounts and have to decide what rear rim to run.

Worksman is less than helpful in supplying a 26" wheel with drum brake and sprocket once they find out it is not going on a bicycle. Don't know if it is a liability problem or what.

It sounds like their 77A and 77AR would work but I don't know if they will fit the slightly less than 5" I have to work with on the rear.

A lot of pictures have appeared on this site showing modified bikes but no mention as to what wheels were used. Most of the pictures seem to have been taken at different shows but no owner comments or ID's given.

Since some of us can't travel to these shows (money, time, distance, family, etc.) I would be nice if a note were left at some of the bikes giving this web site  address so they can share their experiences. It would enrich us all.

Great job.

HAVEN'T QUITE GOT THAT FAR BUT BY EXTENDING THE OUTPUT SHAFT WITH A PULLEY ON THE INSIDE THERE APPEARS TO BE ROOM FOR THE ORIGINAL SET UP.

Just about to launch the old girl. The main concern I have is the final gear ratio using the comet CVT. Made a new secondary shaft with a pulley outside the unit. Unfortunately the pulley outputing the power to the rear pulley might be too steep (meaning rear pulley might have too large a diameter for the smaller one on the CVT) because of engine interferance. Think I might have found a solution by using a replacement Whizzer pulley which looks smaller in diameter.

Don't know if I will need it yet but want to keep it in mind.

Getting anxious now the weather has changed for the better. Will be great to ride one again after 55 years!
