Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Wacky idea for engine conversion
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:26:13 PM »
Boy sometimes I worry about my sanity! Just got done searching for electric hub motor conversions on bicycles and the idea of converting my Servi-cycle to electric drive struck a nerve!

A 1000 watt or larger hub electric motor on the rear seems like it MIGHT have merit. Maybe another one on the front because of weight of the bike and rider assuming  strong enough wheels are used.

There would be plenty of room left for all kinds of battery storage and controllers.

Not really serious yet but after spending 50 years in computers and electronics there is a spark (pun intended).

Give it a thought. I think it could be done for under a couple of thousand.  Hey I'm retired and what else is there to do in the winter?

Wheels & Tires / Re: Rims

What happened with worksman?   Did they not have them?  If I was using a non simplex wheel, they would be the one I used.

They said they didn't have enough demand to put a set together

Anyone had any luck with a set of rims from the after market?

Would like front brake and rear with brake and chain sprocket. Tried worksman with no luck. Several times it has been suggested aftermarket wheels from several sources but I have had no luck after contacting them.

really want to finish my conversion to later engine and this is the main obstruction.

Thanks

A while back someone mentioned that they wre going to produce a motor mount for this engine. Any ideas if one is aailable?

Been traveling. Had to remove the starter because of space. Using Comet CVT so had to fab some brackets to move the wheel back. Not done yet. If anyone has used the starter and a CVT I would like to know.

Made a belt drive final pulley for the comet as could not find a rear wheel that would alow me to retain a rear brake and a sprocket on the left side.

Just starting back on project and if anyone can offer any better ideas I would love to hear them

Just converted my Comet CVT to belt drive instead of chain output. Running a chain final drive proved to be too complicated. The stock wheel is now usable.

Now to install it.

A lot better than Al Boggs in Popular Bluff. He has  some great bikes but not as good a buy as the one Bill found.

Wow, he is persistant! Back again all the way down to 3000.

Maybe he knows something we don't?

Come on, how many 1930 Simplexes are there in the world?

Some of the bikes I see on this site must be worth well over $30000 judging from his asking price.

Does anyone know what model motorcycle wheel will work on a servicycle?
Lots of references to Worksman wheels and some references to conversions using motorcycle wheels but the salvage yards say they have nothingclose

Any ideas? New or usedn

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Indian extended wheel base?
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:49:10 PM »
The Indian look-alike seems to have extended the wheel base with an adapter plate.

I thought it looked awfully long.

That might be my answer to my space problem with a starter.

What do you think?
