Title: 1956 Simplex Article on ebay
Post by: Mike Sal on March 06, 2012, 10:39:57 AM
Anyone notice that the bike in that article has the key switch in the head light & a winged decal on the handlebar mounting plate?  I wonder what years they used the switch in the light bucket, vs the the tall post, vs the key in the mounting plate?

How about that decal.  Think a lot of bikes had those, or maybe this was one that was dolled up for the magazine staff to review?

I took a look at the February 1956 magazine article the Rick had posted a while back.  The bike in that article has the ignition switch on the stalk.  I wonder if the article was written in '55 w/ a '55 bike & just didn't get published until early '56.

Mike, this is interesting.  My 54 has the hole in the headlight for the switch.  My 53 is on the main head tube on the extension. I wonder if that switched back and forth more than once?

In the ebay '56 article, you can see something is in that hole on the plate, but I can't tell what it is.  Besides an independant light switch, I don't know what it could be.

Are those little wing decals available?
