I was bidding online and actually had bid higher than the $2,500 it sold for. When I called the auctioneer they said it went to someone "on the floor". Something didn't sound right but there's not much I can do about it.

Hey guys,
Check out the bike for sale on this auction site. It appears to be a late model, very similar to my 1957 though unsure of the year. Looks to be pretty original including some of the original decals. The ignition switch in the headlight is something I haven't seen before. Hopefully some of you more knowledgeable guys will be able to pinpoint the year. I'd be interested in bidding on it if it weren't on the east coast. Rick, you you may be interested as it is not far from you.

Welcome LF,

I live in Chino Hills which is about 30 minutes from San Bernaardino. Got a few Simplex machines including a three wheel truck; several rare high wheel bicycles; and several Whizzer
Motorbikes. Let me know when you get out this way and I'd love to show you what I have.

Rick,

I've only ridden the truck 3 or 4 times. For the most part I'll ride one of my other bikes. The truck is just so nice I don't seem to want to take it out and ride it. Who knows, I might eventually get tired of just looking at it and start ridding it, but for now it's in the house and used more as a furniture piece.

It was 89 degrees in Southern California yesterday and is probably 83 or 84 right now. Unfortunately today is football so I'm in the house. Maybe a little later I'll go for a ride.

Wow, that really does look great Rick. All of you have fun in Portland. Wish I could make it, maybe next year.

What Year is my Bike? / Re: I thought this was a 1952 but ?

It sounds like you guys have been able to narrow it down to more than likely a 1946 model. Was the 47 model the first of the kick start models?

Rick,

The throttle is on the right and the compression release is on the left.

What about the engine number? Using Mike's registry are we able to pinpoint the engine year?

Rick,

Hopefully the photos will answer your questions. The tank is a single fill (screw in type) with the cap located on the right hand side. The floorboards are "rounded" and the kick stand is located rearward toward the vertical support and not beneath the floorboard as found on later models. The fender braces are not the rounded style like those on the later models.

Thanks again, Vince

I have what I thought was a 1952 Simplex (based on what appeared to be the original tank decals) but the other characteristics of the bike and the engine number appear to make the bike much older. The engine number is H4390. It is a push start and the handlebar's are the gooseneck style. The rims are similar to my 47 model and are not the wider version that I have on my 52 and 57 bikes. There is no frame number that I can find. Are there other characteristics that I could look for that would help identify the year.

Thank, Vince

PD,

You're right, my interests are varied but the common theme is its usually old. Old radios, motorbikes, bicycles, cars, etc. The good news though is my wife enjoys some of these same things so she lets me pursue my passion. Her only concern is we are running out of room downstairs. Several of my antique bikes will be moving upstairs as we've been redoing our upstairs family room.

I'll post a few more picture when I'm done.

Thanks to all of you for your interest. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts on this website. It's nice when people from across the country can share their experiences and things that they have in common. Lets keep this website alive.

Rick,

Actually I haven't ridden it yet. I spent most of last Saturday getting it registered. I was going to take it out yesterday and realized I didn't have any two stroke oil to mix with the gas. Instead I rode my 57. I'll pick up some oil this week and my plan is to take it out next weekend for it maiden run.

I'll let you know how it runs.
