In Southern California 3 hours is not much more than a daily commute!

Manuals Only / Re: Simplex Automatic MotorScooter Manual

Bill,

The manual for the Model M includes a few more pages. I agree with Mike, start another thread and post the unique pages.  The other thing I notice is on the cover for the manual that Mike posted it says "Automatic Motorscooter". On the Model M it says "Automatic Powercycle".

Probably not important, just interesting.

Rick,

I also would like to contribute. I know that it takes money to do what you do and we all benefit from the sharing of information. Particularly us guys that are new to this forum. Even if it's a nominal amount, if we spread it across all users on this forum it's not a burden on any one individual.

Let me know the amount and where to send the check.

Thanks for keeping this forum alive.

Restoration Projects / Re: What is better than one Simplex?

Congratulations, if you bought this from Knute then it was the same bike I had been talking to him about. Unfortunately, I couldn't get up the coast to Atascadero to look at it. I think it's a great buy for the money. I'm glad it went to a fellow member. I agree with Mike, it its a much later model than 1948.

Wayne told me just before he left for vacation that he planned to be back on the 25th. Hopefully we can get a hold of him this weekend. I need to order several items from him as well.

Yes, the ignition key is located in the mounting plate just above the center nut. Unfortunately, the key was missing and it looks to be some sort of special key. Does anyone know if Wayne has reproduction keys or if there is any other source?

I looked at the pipe on the left side and it appears to be original to the bike. The only thing that seems to be missing on the bike is the fuel bowl and the fuel line. I should be able to get those from Wayne when he returns from vacation this week.

Mike,

Thanks for the info, here are the photos of the 1957 bike. As soon as I take some of the 1947 I will post those as well.

I happen to be new to this forum having recently purchased a couple of Simplex machines. I haven't had an opportunity to interact much but that should be changing shortly. I will also be adding to the "registry" the engine numbers and in one case a frame number. I was told this last bike i purchased was a 1956 but from what I've seen on this forum it actually may be a later production model. The other bike I know is a 1947 because I have the original paperwork issued on October 25, 1947 and the engine number matches that paperwork. Here they are: 1947 - H14462E
1956? - Frame Number 16693, Engine Number M24048B
I'll post photos shortly.

I live in Chino Hills which is in Southern California. It looks like most of you are either in the Midwest or on the Eastcoast.

Engine & Transmission / Re: Engine.....Kick Starter
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:38:14 PM »
Mike,

I happen to be new to this forum having joined just last week. I recently purchased a 1947 Simplex that I hope to restore back to original. However, before I start dismantling the bike, I, like you would like to get it running first and I've noticed the same problem with the kick starter where the gears don't seem to line up as they should. I bought a couple of new parts from Wayne Mahaffey today so hopefully I'll be able to get this thing started. I look forward to following your restoration as well as communicating the progress on mine. I'm sure that, from time to time, I'm going to need some help from the experts on this forum. Thanks.
