Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / fumoto drain valve
« on: January 03, 2016, 07:17:52 AM »
For those with H.F. 212 Predator engines on one of Waynes motor mount plates, I'm sure you've noticed the tendency for oil to hide and drip out from under the engine/plate, after finishing changing the oil.  These Fumoto oil valves eliminate the time and mess associated with it.  Slip a small drain hose on, turn the lever on the valve, drain dirty oil into any small container.  Done.  No mess, no chance of stripped drain plug threads, no more crush washers, no drips afterwards, marking your parking spot like a vintage Harley.   (pic of mine has a rubber cap over the drain hose nipple)

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / battery life
« on: September 26, 2015, 06:20:49 AM »
Hey guys, I'm changing my headlight, tail/brake light and turn signals over to 12V LED, from the 9V system I'm currently running, and I'm down to considering its power source now.  It's going to be a rechargeable system but wondering about these little LiPo CCTV camera battery packs.  Any idea how long one of these 12V 6800Mah battery packs would last for use with a 12bulb LED tail/brake light and a 12V LED headlight?  My alternative is a small SLA (12V 5AH) hidden in the saddle bag.

Off Topic / 64 C110
« on: June 14, 2015, 09:41:30 AM »
About finished up this old Honda C110 (original 50cc with 4 speed manual trans, pushrod style/points) and encountered a common issue with the throttle not returning very quickly.  It uses a internal pull that engages a "rifled" throttle tube.  The spring in the carb is all that returns it.  Has new throttle cable, and everything's lubed well. So far, finding a replacement spring that fits, with more tension has been futile.  I thought about adding a spacer for weight and to preload the spring on top of the barrel/slide...Any other ideas?

Off Topic / How about an "off topic" category?
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:44:22 AM »
Just figured an "off topic" category might be interesting because a lot of Servicycle members also work on other types small bikes, etc...and could offer help/support/encouragement on these other projects.  Just a thought?  The occasionally input from some of the "clever (and/or old) monkeys" on this site who may have helpful experience when working on other things. (yes, I occasionally "stray" from my Servi and get involved with other "oldies")

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / racing plug
« on: March 20, 2015, 10:15:40 AM »
After running the bike last weekend, and being very pleased with the results, I decided to start doing a little "tweeking" to the engine in preparation for a "Top-speed" run with it just out of curiosity.  I checked and needed to adjust the intake/exhaust valves which were slightly loose from .002 intake & .003 exhaust.  (Mind you, this engine is completely stock internally, and still has its governor installed and fully functional)  The only modifications I've made are to the intake and exhaust and the carb jetting.  The next thing I may do, is to install a "performance spark plug" (with indexing washers) to increase the stock compression slightly.  A Autolite AR3910X sparkplug will extend deeper into the combustion chamber to accomplish this.  Question...Anyone here have experience with these plugs in go-carts/mini-bikes, etc.?  (The karting sites claim approx. 3/4hp gain from them?)

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / AWESOME WEATHER for a ride.
« on: March 15, 2015, 05:47:48 PM »
A 70 degrees day in northern Minnesota is a heat wave that can't be wasted!  Did a complete "first ride inspection" of my ZR7 and went out for a nice 1hr ride.  With the addition of new tires, brakes, fork oil and a fork suspension modification over the winter, it made the bike ride like a whole new animal.  Got back, took off the "gear" and figured I'd give the Servi a tank full of new gas and make sure all the little modifications over the winter were all good to go. (different air filter, fuel filter, kick-starter, etc...)  I enjoyed riding it so much, I found myself about 25 miles from home.  Bike ran smooth and flawlessly.  It goes faster than it should actually!  I had a guy in a PU pull along side at a light with a 'thumbs up" who said I was going faster than the 40mph limit while he tried to catch up, to get a look at it.  I was just cruising along and still had plenty of throttle left. I'm guessing 50mph is possible with a little tuck and a smoother road.  One day, I'll wind it all the way up with a GPS and find out "top speed". Till then, I'll need to keep eye on speed in town I guess?  Who'd a thought you could possibly get a speeding ticket on a Servi?  LOL.  Like a rambler powered dragster.

Other Things Simplex / pinstripes
« on: February 01, 2015, 08:18:45 AM »
I've been playing around/practicing with a set of pinstripe brushes on/off, and was considering doing some to my Servi.  Looked at pics of others bikes, and other than rim, anyone else added pinstripes to tank, fenders, neck area, headlight?  For the sake of discussion and to get a better idea of what looks good, anybody have some pics to post of what they've painted/had painted on theirs?

Buy, Sell, Trade / couple misc light parts...
« on: December 28, 2014, 01:29:35 PM »
Going thru some stuff I won't need and figure I'd offer it (dirt cheap for shipping cost) to someone who actually needs one.  I have a tail light base with couple gaskets.  The base has wires/springs/contact points intact.  let me know with P.M. if interested.  Hate to just have it sitting and going to waste in a box, if someone needs it for their restoration project.  UPDATE...They are SOLD!

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / shiny new fuel filter
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:16:06 PM »
The old plastic fuel filter I had, was in need of replacement/upgrade.  After considering a bowl type, I decided to go with this different retro glass/chrome style instead.  After figuring out the best mounting location to allow for vibration, heat, and most direct route to carb., here's what it came out looking like.  I like it, and really cleaned up top of the engine nicely.  Next/last mod. is a small chrome/green valve cover vent filter I like, and I think bike's about done.  Maybe?  LOL.  Maybe look for another project bike, and do a foot clutch, jockey shift with a old Suzuki twin 2 stroke I found?  That might be dangerously fun servi custom???

Researching 26X4 mountain/urban bike tires and electric hubs, and came across a website that's interesting.  Busetti.com.  They make a 48-52 volt, 1400watt electric internally geared bike hub in 26X4 that has over a 50 mile range, with 25% hill climb capacity and speeds over 30mph.  They include controls, regenerative braking, charger, etc... among other things. Too bad the total cost with battery is over $1500.  it would make for an interesting, and uniquely powered Servicycle.

Wheels & Tires / wheel bearing assembly
« on: October 25, 2014, 06:46:47 PM »
Had bike on stand this weekend and figured I'd inspect and grease front wheel bearings.  It's been awhile since I dealt with old fashioned loose ball bearings, so thought I'd ask "the experts" here.  Between the bearing cone and locknut, is there supposed to be a small flat washer?  If not, should it matter?  I did notice it did allow a normal thickness 11/16" wrench to be used to hold the cone, while snugging the locknut vs. without it, so I left it on.  just curious?

Wheels & Tires / flip flop hubs
« on: September 28, 2014, 07:26:06 AM »
I'm considering doing a front disk brake set-up on my servi and came across a product line called Flip Flop hubs.  Essentially a hub set-up with threads on both sides to allow free wheeling, gears, and/or disk brake conversions for either front or rear applications.  They  also make a springer mount kit that would adapt well to our bike (I believe?).  Anyone use/experience with these?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / re-surfaceing drum
« on: September 07, 2014, 02:35:44 PM »
I'm going to order some new linings from Wayne soon for my bike, and was wondering how people were surface prepping the drums for maximum braking?  Was driving bike this weekend and had to do an "emergency stop" (try at least LOL)  Disaster was avoided but really emphasized my need for better brakes on a bike that goes 45mph.  What grade/grit  sandpaper/finish you think would be appropriate?

Wheels & Tires / replacement brake shoes
« on: August 17, 2014, 12:37:52 PM »
I was wondering if these brake shoes would work on my 48'?  On E-bay for $11.00 and measures 4.925" (125mm) and look very close.  Anyone tried?
