Good morning
That looks great and a good way to do it.  I have not seen it done by building up such big pieces of missing fins. I have always made replacement fin pieces or had the original broken part to fit back which is difficult to get in there to weld sometimes.

Wish I had seen that years ago.
Great job and worth the time.

That is a great idea!  I wish I had thought of that instead of making a whole new rotor valve when I did the K model.

Good afternoon,
a couple of photos of inside and outside of 762 throttle tube would be much appreciated.  It looks like there might be some piece added inside of it from the parts diagrams.
If I can see photos of a real one I will know enough to decide if I have the ambition to make one.  Each time I make a different spiral, I have to make different tooling or do them by hand.

How the spiral is held on with 763 is the part I do not understand.

Thank you,
Scooter

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Model M throttle twist assembly
« on: May 26, 2023, 05:19:19 PM »
Good evening,
I have a model M I fixed up years ago and have never started because I am missing some throttle twist parts.  I have a few pictures from this site, but none showing how the twist tube is held on or what the retainer that does that looks like or the inside of the twist tube.
This is an odd design.
I am wanting to make parts 770, 762 and 763.  I have all the other parts.  Refer to attached parts image.
I would appreciate pictures and some measurements.
Thank you,
Scooter

Engine & Transmission / Re: Magnesium Head Fin's Repair with Epoxy?
« on: May 22, 2023, 06:31:06 PM »
Good evening,
I have brass brazed them, nickel rod arc welded them and on areas where I cant reach I have metal epoxy glued them on, but that has to be thick enough to hold and you can see it.

There are people that tig with nickel and also mig weld them.

The problem with brazing is so much heat is needed at one time that a lot of the cylinder is heated up that the uneven heat my be risky for for deformation or cracking. But, I have done a lot of it and am not aware of a problem.

When people tig or mig weld them, they do not preheat, they do bits at a time.

look for videos.

Good luck,
Scooter

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Re: Throttle broke

Good morning,
you will have to provide pictures of all of the twist grip parts for us to help you.  If I go off of only what I see then it appears that your bike has a 1960's - 70's Honda or maybe some other Japanese bike throttle adapted unless Simplex used that style on later bikes.

Look up pictures of Honda CT70 controls and maybe that will get you going.
Good luck,

Good morning,
I am glad you pointed that out, I did not know that.  Interesting they would change the models so often.
Thank you,

Good evening,
Your motor might be M, but the rest of the bike is not. It looks L model.

The L and M motors look similar.

The M has automatic clutch and does not need the pedal.  I do not know if the pedals will interchange as far as the mount bosses and clearance.  The pedal you have appears correct for you bike.

Good evening,
I cant tell from your pictures or what you wrote to tell what broke.  Are you able to explain?
I do not know what all type of controls Simplex used, but that sure looks like a Honda spiral control type.
More information will help.
Good luck.

Good morning,
That is an L model clutch and the bolt in the added on part is probably in the original hole for the shifter rod.  That would be about correct.
Refer to attached image one of the folks on this site shared with me. Mine is different, so I can not measure it for you.
Good luck,
