I was wondering what could I expect for speed on an original Simplex?  Late '50s direct drive model.

The direct drive models end somewhere around early 1941.  After that, they went to clutch drive, and then in 1953, automatic drive.  The automatic works like a minibike torque convertor, and were the fastest of the simplexes.  They could get to approximately 45 mph.
