I picked up a dented center fill tank from Ebay for a good enough price to try my hand at separating the halves and fixing it. It came with a brass cap that made the purchase worth it all the more. I like to build up the dented down top with brass rod and a torch then pop it in the lathe to re-true it. Restore the knurled edge and polish. Also found a tap to chase the threads in the filler neck. Most of the time I bring these odd tools to Portland with me so if you need to use them just say the word then get your butt to Portland!

By the way this cap looked to be tin coated in some way. May be from mid 30s. 1936 or 1937. Not sure but it is slightly different then others I have seen and actually had a gasket around the lip that seemed to be original. (meant to post in Frame Tank Seat area)

Thanks Tom! I may have to keep my eye out for one on eBay, on the cheap.

Great work Tom! I wonder if Reese has done anymore work on his gas tank pressings?

Very nice , Tom .
Will you apply any kind of coating or maybe just a good wax ?
