Title: What year is my simplex???
Post by: Sonrisers on February 18, 2013, 04:34:21 PM
Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a few questions. I have a simplex and I'm not sure what year it is. The frame # is 10106, and the engine # is M17958B. I would appreciate any help I could get. I'm missing some parts and trying to research weather or not it would be worth restoring. Thank you.

Hi Sonrisers, welcome aboard!  Post some pictures.  Your engine and frame numbers indicate a late 1955 model.  I bet the engine is original to that frame.

If you have an engine, any simplex is worth restoring, imo.  The engine is by far the hardest part to find.

BTW, where are you located?

I agree with Rick.....late '55.  Send me a PM with your real name, the state you live in, and the condition of your bike for the registry.

Where did you get  your bike?  What kinds of parts is it missing?  Pictures are easy to post (hint hint).

I traded a Honda rebel for the bike about 20 yrs ago. I have owned 2 simplex's in the past. The first one was titled and was a 47 I believe. That one I bought with my brother, and the one I have now I bought myself. The sad thing is that the one I have now, I took for a test ride before I bought it. Both bikes got stored together in basket case form, and my brother helped himself to the older one when I was away, taking what he thought was the older one with it's parts. Unfortunately he got away with some of my parts as well. Missing exhaust, rear hub assembly, carb, and not sure everything else. This one had a centrufical clutch and also had lawnmower points in it that were rigged up. At the time I thought it had been modified because it wasn't direct drive like the older one. I will be sending some pics shortly. Thank you for your help.

That's a groovy paint job on the tank!  Too bad the parts got away from you.  Get ready to start contributing to the Alabama small business economy (that's where Wayne lives).

Ok, I talked to Wayne,(thanks Mike for the info) he said he was gonna have most everything I need. All I have left for parts are what you see in the photos. I know I'm gonna need an exhaust, rear hub assembly, carb, kick start, the drive pully or clutch, not sure which, proper mag cover. How about some advise from the experts, what do you see missing????

Yes, all the late model bikes are M models.  I think from '52 to the end in '60.

When the time comes if you still don't have a muffler, let me know.  I might be able to make you a deal on one.
