I finished my gas tank. I decided to go with a different tank emblem since I do not have a simplex engine, I am making it a custom.

Great looking start.

Nice paint!! What engine are you putting in your bike? Post some pictures.

Got my tank back from the shop that boiled it out this afternoon. A few bits of the original paint remain. It was originally that lipstick type red color I've seen on other bikes (like Vince's). I think I'm going more red, similar to the color of my red jeep cherokee, with a black teardrop insert onto which I'm going with the wing decals. Not original, but I think I'll like it better than the stock paint job.

Are these tanks normally warped from the stamping & welding process? Mine has warpage on the "flat" areas that are mostly covered by the frame rails (but you can still see a little bit of it on the top side when it's installed.

I to have wondered this, like you said with the tank in the frame its not to noticeable

I have noticed this also. The tank rubs on the underside of the frame. Next time I will pad this with some form of thin rubber or foam to keep the paint from rubbing off.

You know that goop in a can you can buy to dip the handles of your pliers into to create rubber grips? I wonder if I guy could just "paint" a little bit of that stuff on the bottom of the frame tubes to act as a cushion for the tank?
