Wayne's throttle photos?
« on: July 31, 2013, 01:03:33 PM »
Do any of you have a photo of what Wayne's throttle grips and mechanism look like?

I just want to see what I am getting before I send the funds.

Thanks,

Ricks

Illmatic, look through both my 1953 and 1955 projects.  They both have Wayne's grips, as will the new 1959/1960 Sportsman that I am working on.
The throttle parts that he sells are just like stock, except thicker steel, so he does not include the reinforcement insert, part # 770, as it is not needed.  My suggestion with his throttle setup is to run a sanding roll inside the rotatable tube, part #762, to clean up the machining a little.  This makes it work like butter!!

I had read in one of the old old VMBC magazines that there was a guy in the club that tooled up lots of reproduction grips for different motorbikes, including Simplex, & he sold them thru the magazine & at the meets.  I think that's where Wayne got his stock of Simplex grips.  The guy is gone now & I'm not sure who's got the tooling or business.

I think his name was George Fox.  The company was FoxGrip.

Just googled him.  George Fox passed away in 2009 and his wife sold out the remaining stock.  That was all I could find, I don't know if someone else took over production.

Did you notice in that old catalog that he had "150cc" decals available?  There couldn't be much demand for those out there.

I think the grips were $45 and all the metal parts were $65.  Or something close to that.
