Restoration Projects / Re: Sonrisers 55'

Finally found time to work on the simplex. I have been wanting to add head and tail lights without adding a battery. after hours of research on the internet, I finally found a youtube video of a guy changing the flywheel and adding a lighting coil. The guy said to find a flywheel off of a baja minibike like are sold at farm stores. after finding a guy on ebay that had bought a truckload of baja mini bikes that were store returns, I bought the whole kit for $60. When I recieved the flywheel, it didn't fit, the crank shaft taper was to small. After lookinga at it I realized that everything else was identical, so I removed the magnets from the new flywheel and drilled 2 holes in the original, and I now have power. several places on the internet say that there are 2 different sizes of crankshafts on the predator motor, but said if you have a Hemi style motor, it is the right size for the baja. From everything I have read, I have the hemi style motor....but the flywheel still didn't fit. I ordered 2 1156 led bulbs off of ebay for $8.... and 2 1157 led bulbs off of the web for $3. I wanted to buy the cheapest I could find in case it didn't work. I ground the tits off of the 1157 bulb, and then used the 3 keyhole flange off of one of Waynes headlight bulbs that I had broken...soldered the flange onto the new led bulb so I didn't have to grind out the headlight reflector....the 1156 bulbs fit right in the taillight sockets. the 1157 bulb isn't very bright, but it works for now til I cand find another brighter version. the tail light seems to be bright enough.

I got the kit that Wayne makes, the motor mounting plate and the jack shaft. I'm  not set up for much fabricating as well, and I was able to have the motor in and comet clutch mounted and riding within an hour. I did have to heat and tweak the brake rod a little to get it to clear one of the motor bolts. I also got his kick starter that he makes for the motor mount. And it also works well.

Rick C., I have been "silently" watching the progress on this project since day 1....and I must say I'm impressed with your workmanship and creativity. I haven't had as much time to play on the forum as I used to, but I still try to catch up once or twice a week. I like the copper you have integrated into the design, it really highlights it.

Looks good Rick, when we built the exhaust for my original motor we had the tail pipes run along the frame....looked good, but wasn't enough clearance. looks like you done it right.

Hey everyone, haven't active on here for a while, wife's computer crashed and she has confiscated mine. The only way I can usually get on here is with my phone, and I hate using it to post and look around. Been really busy working on getting the ice cream shop ready for the reopening on March 25th.

I replied to your comment on Facebook also, bit I would be able to make the decals for you. Just as Rick siad, I would need the length and hight of the originals, and would need to make the proper changes. I just put in an order for printing, so it may be a week or so before I could get them done. Cost would be $35 plus any shipping. I sent you a friend request on fb also

Looking good Rick. I have the exhaust that my brother made for the stock motor on my bike just hanging in my garage. It isn't exactly like the stock simplex exhaust, but is close. Think you could adapt it to fit yours??

Looking good Rick. What are you planning on doing for lights. Does the motor have a charging coil. I would like to see somebody come up with a way to run lights and still look original.

My wife and I are planning on being there early also so we can do some shopping, but we won't set the kettle korn up until the first day of the show. It really sucks watching all of you guys running around and there I am stuck in the popcorn stand lol. It is still a long way off though, and we know how plans can change.

We drove straight through and made it home at 3:30 am. 13 1/2 hr drive. This was the first time we have driven it in one day. Popcorn was slow this yr, and the muck and mud made it challenging, but all in all we had a good time. I have some pics to post, but that will have to wait til I get caught up on some much needed rest. lol Nice to see all of you again!

Hope to see you in Portland pd, make sure you stop by the kettle korn stand and say hi. We are also doing the group photo on Sunday at 3 pm. I have been doing some tinkering on mine here lately also, but it looks like it will be in running order by Portland.

I'm starting to get that Portland itch! I've been so busy lately...everything else has been consuming my time. I did get the Simplex out a couple of weeks ago for a parade, and the old throttle cable seized up. I ordered another from Wayne and got it installed. I also got a new jet for the carb, and it is running a lot better now. Just a couple of big popcorn events to go and we will be heading out. Planning on being there Thursday early. Hope to see as many of you guys as possible. Looking forward to the group photo again this year and hoping to blow away the 37 we had last year.
