Title: VMBC Portland 2021
Post by: Ricks on May 05, 2021, 09:06:21 AM
Who’s in for the 2021 Meet in Portland?  I know most of you missed last years Outlaw event, hopefully you will be back for this one.

I will be unveiling my 1955 Anniversary Edition Automatic at the meet. What are the rest of you bringing to show and or ride?

I will see everyone there!   On the Hill under the burgundy tent.  The Serviglide wont be finished by then and wont be along for the ride.  Heart broken for that but have been giving it the justice it deserves.    So will be bringing my normal rides.

Hey Rick, Mike and I will be there. Mike's picking one up to ride. I haven't had much time. Wife had he hip replaced in Oct, knee replaced in Feb, right now we're in the hospital with pneumonia. On the upside I did go to Arkansas and picked a bunch of frames and parts. Bought a big fender deluxe sportsman from Mike. Now if I can just find time to wrench and ride.

Rick ,

We landed on our summer site in mid-Michigan this past Sunday . We're getting settled nicely , even though we're having to run the furnace and wearing winter coats outside . Not use to these cold temps . :(

I'm planning on seeing you guys in Portland this June . :)

Pete . :)

Just some pictures from the show.   I wasn't as much of a shutterbug as I normally am!

We all had a great time.   Was nice seeing and visiting with all of you.  Had good conversation  with PD the last couple nights of the show.  It was nice he could make it.  Missed seeing 57auto but maybe next year!

The weather was fabulous with a bit of some rain but did clear back off.  Travis and I tent camped as usual but on the last day  Bob Kerr decided to head back home early  and surrendered his motel room to us.  So after a week of living outside we had an air conditioned room with a TV!  So we just left from the room Sunday morning.

Travis and I attended the Club banquet that is held right there on the grounds. It was on Saturday at 5pm and lasted about two hours.  Around 125 members were there.   It was a pleasant time with good food.   Plus I won a door prize!

Good seeing everyone this year. Had a great time. Came home to a mess tho. While I was gone some one went to my farm where all my toys were stored and cleaned me out. 6 simplexs, about 200 antique bicycles, 3 mustangs, a 68 nova, and a 71 dodge truck. No telling what else. Called the sheriff. While the deputy and I were talking we heard a vehicle coming up the road. My shop and cabin are better than a quarter mile off the county road. The deputy went to check them out and I jumped into my truck to catch them. There were two guys and a girl in a bronco pulling a car hauler trailer no doubt coming back for more. Got the trailer jackknifed and I pulled in front of the truck where they couldn't leave. The fact I had a weapon pulled on them might have also been a deterrent. The deputy called for backup. The sheriff and 5 deputies were there in about 15min. The 2 guys went to jail. They let the girl go but the next day the girl and some guy tried to break into the police impound yard to get something out of the bronco. They got away but know there will be several charges against her and they guy with her. Went to social media and the local news station. Already leads are starting to come in. Hope I can get part of my stuff back. The things that happen to be able to tell stories. Wow!!!!

Pleasure meeting you too Pete. Well guys, did a news story last nite,KOTV Channel 6, https://www.newson6.com/story/60d667f45313e70c02ca0784/thieves-steal-250000-worth-of-classic-cars-bicycles-from-pawnee-county-man-. Shortly after this a guy called and said the property where he is living, the land owner had been bring in several trailers of cars. He went to check this morning and one of the cars under a tarp was a older red mustang fastback. He said there must be a least 20 large tarps covering stuff on the back of the property. put a call into the sheriff. We'll see what happens. Praying this turns out to be something.

Pictures from the judging.

The matching Simplex and Harley-Davidson bicycle belong to Chuck Cuddington.  He has owned this Simplex for many years and this is the third restoration of it.  He followed the color scheme of the bicycle.  The bicycle is 1 of 1000.   From 1998.

Red scooter folded up and could fold completely in half where the handlebars would turn in and be concealed inside the motor compartment.

Well this gets even crazier. Apparently after the newscast they came back and took 3 more vehicles. The first 2 guys were arrested and still in jail. New thieves!! No telling what I'm dealing with here. A Corvette, a cattle trailer, and an army jeep 2 ton truck made into a firetruck. After the newscast a guy called and said he knows where all the stolen stuff is located. I've been talking with him and now he's talking with the sheriff. I hope just a matter of time.

Come to find out, there's a guy here in town that started stealing bicycles and then told the guys that stole the cars where the farm was located. These ignorant drug heads keep talking and I hope will lead me to the rest of the stuff. I keep getting bits and pieces of info and always check to see where it leads. Got 3 more antique bikes back last week. The DA in this county won't issue a search warrant without concrete proof about the whereabouts of the stuff. But, me and Smith and Wesson can look all we want. I've still got hope. Bob

Hey Rick, We recently rented our house next door to a lady and her boyfriend. He's into motorized bicycles. We got to talking and he said he thought he knew where some of the bikes might be. They had looked at a house for sale about a mile west of town, he said behind the shop there were a bunch of old bicycles in the weeds that looked like someone tried to hide them. I had to go look. Sure enough, there sat an old 50's tandem bike that I had in the shop. I looked around and found about 20 of my old bicycles. Then we looked in this guys shop and found a bunch of stuff that came out of my shop. Called the sheriff and they said it could be a problem taking my stuff off private property and not being able to prove it was mine. There's no one living there. I told them bullshit, that's my stuff I'm taking it. I went and got my trailer they didn't steal and loaded everything I could find in and around the shop that belonged to me. No problems. The guy that did live there was friends with the brothers that stole the bikes to begin with. They just hid them at the guys house. Still missing a lot of stuff, but these guys keep talking and by word of mouth I'm finding my stuff a little at a time. Done give up on law enforcement, It's JOHN WAYNE time!!!

Well guys, this is the story that keeps on going. Last nite on the way home a guy was leaving town with a yellow corvette on a trailer. I made a U turn and got behind the guy. My wife said what are you doing!! That's my car!! Followed the guy about 25 miles until he pulled into a store to get gas. I pulled in and started a conversation with the guy where I could check out the car. Sure enough it was my corvette that got stole with the rest of the cars. The guy left and I followed and called 911. They sent 2 deputies that stopped the guy, checked the VIN # and the car was registered to me. He lived in the area and they let him go until the investigators could bring him in for questioning, as they were short handed on shift and didn't have time to spend on him. So now I've got all my vehicles back. Still missing 2 trailers, 2 choppers, some Simplex's, and about 100 antique bicycles. Detective Bob is on the case! Leads keep popping up and I always check them out. Next chapter whenever it happens.
