Engine & Transmission / Engine change M to H
« on: June 04, 2013, 08:59:36 PM »
I have a few questions on engines. Could you tell me what year is a M20655 engine.
Would the M engine work well in an H Servi 40's model.
If using the M engine, what happens to the compression release system with no
place to hook up the twist cable on the M engine.

Any Help appreciated.

Yes the Big C is the most dreaded thing next to death. It seems to be on the rise due to
many things that we eat or do. Mine started with a SCC skin cancer behind my ear. I work daily
in the sun and should have used protection over the years. Untreated went into the Parotid gland
in the neck jaw area and spread into lymp nodes.
Anyone who has had either chemo or radiation knows that it never stops giving to you with its fangs.
However, who can complain when you are given more life with the treatments.
Take care of your body, watch what you eat, drink and stay alert for drunks driving the wrong way on the
freeways.
I live north of Dallas in a rural area.

Ole servi here in North Texas. Bought my first Servi in 1946. Hit a truck
on the way to school one morning and that one was sold for scrap.
Broken leg and head injury. Then bought a Harley 74 a year later and
rode it for several years. Then started outboard racing in 1953, raced
hydros and racing runabouts for 13 years-- then another broken leg{other
one} and more head injury. Found another 46 servi to be restored and
have it going now. I do not need another broken leg tho!

Mike, I have never showed it. I attended a few national Studebaker meets, however no showing, just looking and making the swap area. I have a couple more Studes. I guess I am bashful to show cars. I just like to drive them and work on them when they need some care. Sounds like you have been a Stude fan for quite a while. Got my first Servi Cycle in 1946.

Mike, glad you like Studebakers. Here is a 50 bullet nose I have. In 1950 I bought one just like it when they came out with the new design nose.  You have a good system on buying on Ebay.

Glad you posted. I followed the auction in Fla that day and saw a lot of items sold that went low and some high. As you said some of the buyers bought to resell and know nothing about Simplex. Some will get stuck with their buys as some are putting out incorrect information on the resale. Too bad the auction was so far off and many could not have been there to make a buy. One thing we know is that as time goes by there will be less and less of parts for the Servi and they will continue to go higher and higher.
I have a couple of Lincoln Continentals with the original V-12s and over the years parts for them are priced too high now. However if you have to have the part, you have to pay the price. Supply and demand.

Having bought and sold on Ebay for the past 14 years, I like Ebay. When I need or want something
that is not available thru a vendor, then ebay more than likely has it. Sure I have to pay more at times
but it is just how bad I want it to get it.
Having sold many auto parts over the years, I found it take 2 bidders to get a good price. Many many times
I have sold the item at the starting price. So thats the way of the game of auctions.
One thing that I never do is give false information on the item I am selling. It is much easier
to tell the truth and get a positive feedback and not to worry about a return etc. Sure I have sold some items that
brought much more than I had ever thought it would. It must have been an item that someone wanted enough to
pay the price so I do not feel I rooked anyone is two or more bid it to that price, means that they got what they needed.
I have in the last couple of years sold a few Servi items and everyone so far has gave me a positive feedback so I am
happy they got what they wanted.

What year did the fender change from the one screw in the center of the brace to
the two screws on the sides of the fenders.
Thanks for the information.
