Other Things Simplex / Different rear rack
« on: August 28, 2017, 03:47:00 PM »
I don't recall seeing a rear rack like :

And , did the 'builder' take a bit of artistic license mounting the exhaust pipe ?

Other Things Simplex / Independence Day
« on: July 02, 2017, 05:26:15 AM »
The city park we host finally rec'd an American flag and proper pole last Summer . Prior there was none .

Our co host went to the mayor and asked what the problem was . Soon after there was a crew installing a 'never dark' pole and a couple days later we had a flag raising .
I still catch myself looking to see what the noise is : Ole' Glory flapping in the breeze .

 Happy 4th , everyone .

Engine & Transmission / Vacuum
« on: May 20, 2017, 08:27:17 AM »
Gary Wollard wrote in his Tech Tips that our motors need , at least , 3.5 inches of vacuum .

With which gauge and where would it be attached ?

I'm thinking the gauge would have to be fit flat against the carb inlet . But , I don't know which gauge would be used .

I just tried going to the VMBC site and got a 404 NOT FOUND message .

Maybe they are doing only Facebook and dumped the site ?

Other Things Simplex / Is anyone doing anything Simplex ?
« on: November 10, 2016, 08:35:30 PM »
The  site has been pretty dead lately . I'd think that now , being as we don't have to sit in front of the TV watching the presidential race , someone has to be doing something to some kind of Simplex . ;)

I should talk ... I've only watched my '57 follow me from North central Illinois to South Texas and it's still on the trailer . We haven't sat still for more than about a week . We've been looking for a decent campground to spend a month or two just relaxing and puttsing around . Then , maybe , I'll mess with the Simplex .

Post up guys . It doesn't matter if you only found new and different spark plugs to run . I have to admit that I have done just that , but I'll post in the rider thread about which brand and #s and how well they seem to work .

Engine & Transmission / Points Cam Identification
« on: October 12, 2016, 05:37:51 PM »
Simplex part number for the Wico points cam is 1245 . Here is a picture of a Wico cam , Courtesy of RickS .  He positioned the high point at 12:00, so we can see the index of the key tang, which is 7:15 or so.

Simplex part number for the Phelon points cam is 2462 . Here is a picture of a Phelon cam , similarly positioned . Note the different location of the key tang .

Some or all of the Phelon cams may be stamped as shown in the picture below , which is  Phelon part # F2529 with a directional arrow .

The Wico and Phelon cams are definitely different . Obviously to accommodate the different placing of the points .

Documents on this page (  http://www.simplexservi-cycle.com/index.php?topic=446.0 ) verify the Phelon # F2529 crosses to the Simplex # 2462 .

Other Things Simplex / Independence Day weekend ...
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:55:20 PM »
Independence Day weekend , Saturday night . A few clouds , no wind and 62° . As I sit on the 'patio' wondering how far I care to upgrade the '57 , I'm hearing the seemingly obligatory precursor fireworks being blown off in town by impatient plebeians and nobles .

Seriously , I hope all of you enjoy the weekend , safely . You know , without blowing off any body parts and such .

Thank a Veteran .

Engine & Transmission / Piston Ring Dimension
« on: January 08, 2016, 04:55:33 PM »
Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the rings that Wayne supplies with his pistons ? I need the depth and thickness measurements .

I ask here in hopes of having to remove my cylinder only once .

After honing my cylinder for more clearance than what was provided by Wayne , I think the ring end gap is likely too much and allowing lower compression . I have some rings that I might be able to use , but ???
If that is a 'no go' , I'll have to contact Wayne .

Thanks .

Pete . :)
