Simplex Sportsman / Re: Sportsmans
« on: December 09, 2014, 08:12:56 AM »
Thanks Rick. No I didn't make it to Portland, but I'd love to go next year if time permits. The sportsman appeared to be Simplex's last ditch effort to keep their motorbikes going. Shame they didn't come up with a more efficient and dependable motor. Also how is your Sportsman project going. I haven't seen an update in awhile.

Simplex Sportsman / Sportsmans

I posted  questions in the New Simplex on Ebay thread. But I'll try again here. Any estimates on How many of the big fendered sportsmans were made. A friend of mine has two complete rolling chassis. Looking for 150 motors if any one has one for sale. Also what is the value of sportsmans and their specific parts. I know they are rare and hardly ever see them. Any info would help. Thanks, Bob

Other Things Simplex / Re: New Simplex on EBay

Hey guys. Most bikes that are even semi complete and partially original projects are in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. We all know what tires, leather, paint and the shiny stuff cost. Making it run $$$$$. But its priceless when it does fire. Even if it only runs for a few seconds then dies. When you do get to ride it, thats priceless. This is all about the love of cool old motorbikes. Lets hear about prices though. A friend and I have been kicking this around. What does everyone think are fair prices for these bikes and parts.  I agree the bikes don't usually go for what the sum of the parts cost. Parts are hard to find and pricey. But we are dealing with rare bikes because they were throw away equipment back in the day. And like most stuff, once it gets to be a certain age, now its collectible. My friend has 2 Sportsman rolling semi complete bikes. No motors of course. If anyone has a motor they would like to sell please let us know. Relic, I bought the 52 so Mike could by the Sportsmans. Sportsmans appear to be as rare as trucks. Not sure how many were made, but you hardly ever see or hear about them. What would these be worth when restored. This has to be all about the love and not the money. But money does seem to have its ruling power. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Simplex Sportsman / Re: '59 or '60 Sportsman rescued

It has floorboards and crash bars that look like they were added by Bubba and a hot stick. These will need to come off. We do have other frames that could be used. Are these more collectable with or without the floor boards and crash bars. I put a post in the sportsman section asking how many of these were made. The frame number is 18001.

Buy, Sell, Trade / Restored '54 and parts bike in Missouri
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:05:19 AM »
Went to look at a restored '54 and '48 in Missouri yesterday. The guy wants $5,000 firm on both bikes together http://springfield.craigslist.org/mcy/4474666803.html. The '54 looks better in picture than in person but is still pretty nice. The '48 is an auto frame with a supposedly rebuilt '48 marked motor, single spout tank , an early seat spring. Because of this he thinks it is a '48.  His name is Mike and is a really nice guy. I passed but my friend did bring home a '59 or '60 sportsman. Just thought i would post this if anybody would like to check it out.

Simplex Sportsman / '59 or '60 Sportsman rescued
« on: July 12, 2014, 07:49:57 AM »
Just picked up a '59 or '60 Sportsman from Missouri yesterday. No motor or trans assembly. Does have the correct front end, large wheels and brakes, also has both fenders in nice shape. I know these are kinda rare and not much info on them. Does anyone have a idea of how many of these were produced in their 3 year run. Later today I'll try to post pics and get the frame number. Any spare motors or clutches for sale. LOL, but always a shot in the dark.

Sweeeeet! Looks like a great project. I know you were stoked to get it home. Hope the trip went well without any glitches. Thank you again for letting us be a part of the experience. Mike is still drooling over the 52. Try to get it running this week. Thanks, Bob

Just wanted to say Hi and what a cool site. I'm new to the site but not new to the Simplex. A friend of mine got started on these years ago and changed his mind. Knowing how cool these bikes were I just had to buy his whole collection. One original I believe 53 Automatic complete with original parts. Also assorted frames and parts. I'm close to Tulsa, OK. Anyone else live in this area. Bob
